  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

What size lathe do you have?

I usually check 'New Posts' and it popped up there. I think there are different ways that the forum software can be directed to make discussions 'Sticky' - so that they show up at the top of the discussion lists. But I don't know if there is a setting that can make one discussion 'Sticky' in...

But, what size lathe do you identify with? :)

What size lathe do you have?

It's not entirely clear to me, either. I think if people have multiple lathes of different sizes, the percentages won't add to 100? What do the percentages mean? Right now the data shows me 57 voters with 84 'votes' with the percentages adding to 147.4% The first line shows 13 votes for <9"...

I don't own the Vevor 7x14 any more so I can't do any testing, and report back here- I'll leave that to @Chris Cramer, if he is willing. (I kept my 7x14 MicroMark lathe.) All the Vevor 7x12 and 7x14 lathes were made by RealBull and don't have a Hi-Lo transmission inside the headstock. The big...

What size lathe do you have?

Anyway, it will be interesting to see the results. What information are we really trying to get? "What size lathes do you have experience using, and feel competent to give advice about?" "When you come to this forum, what sorts of machines, and problems/projects are you interested in talking...

What size lathe do you have?

It was a lighthearted suggestion. You wouldn't need a lot of categories: Under 100 lbs, 100-1000 lbs, 1000-2500 lbs, large. :)

What size lathe do you have?

Thanks for posting this poll. Will you be able to separate the # of owners (i.e. number of members completing a response) from the # of machines when you analyze the data? You could have made it even simpler, I suppose: "What's the weight of the lathe you use most often?" :)

I agree. I REALLY don't like FB Marketplace but I have to go there for the same reason I use the FB mini-mill and 7x groups: it's where the action is. For buying and selling in Victoria, usedvictoria used to be the go-to place. Now, I put identical ads both there and in FB marketplace - but 80%...

And, sometimes "Get a bigger lathe" is the correct answer, too. :)

    Metal lathe options

That's a pretty tall order; you guys are making a good attempt at it already. The other forum that's not bad in the 'all segments' area is the Hobby-Machinist in the US. Some of the leading participants here are also helpful on that forum. The 'general' groups on Facebook- places like the...
