  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Are 1/4" fittings different for welding gas cylinders than for air lines?

My gas line fittings are quick disconnect (as are my airline fittings), but the thread on the gas regulator assembly that threads into the gas cylinder valve is normal right hand thread. Jim G

Are 1/4" fittings different for welding gas cylinders than for air lines?

Are 1/4" fittings different for welding gas cylinders than for air lines? I'm asking because I have been using my Argon gas cylinder to feed my TIG welder, and today tried to hook the same "gas" line to my plasma cutter instead. The female fitting on the end of the line from the gas cylinder...

What air compressor CFM and reservoir size needed to run a 50 amp plasma cutter

For high combinations of psi and CFM, that is true, but not for the psi and CFM combinations I need for my tiny plasma cutter. The user manual says 6 CFM BUT only 40 to 50 psi, depending on the specific material and thickness being cut. Many 120 volt air compressors can supply 6 CFM at 40 to 50...

What air compressor CFM and reservoir size needed to run a 50 amp plasma cutter

My plasma Cutter, a Bestarc BTC 500DP, does have its own psi regulator, and the adjustment knob is right on the front right below the psi gauge! :) Jim G

What air compressor CFM and reservoir size needed to run a 50 amp plasma cutter

The dual air compressors idea is neat, but requires a high amp electrical panel that can feed the 2 compressors PLUS the plasma cutter at the same time. I am limited to 50 amps by the underground cable that the builder ran from the house panel to the rear detached garage, and the 30 amps being...

What air compressor CFM and reservoir size needed to run a 50 amp plasma cutter

Your comment on setting the selected air compressor's regulator gauge output psi to 50, when the cut-in psi is say 100 psi or more, is a really good suggestion, as yes, it means that even while the compressor is building psi back from 100 psi to its cutout psi, there will be no interruptions or...

What air compressor CFM and reservoir size needed to run a 50 amp plasma cutter

Yes, I get what you are saying. But, 55 seconds, at 10 to 20 inches per minute plasma cutting, is only 9 to 18 inches of cut. For a single cut, or cuts spaced apart by a few minutes, that would be ok. But when trying to do, say, 3 inch cuts quickly repetitively, it won't work well. And on a...

What air compressor CFM and reservoir size needed to run a 50 amp plasma cutter

I recently got one of the lunchbox size 50 amp plasma cutters. The machine does a good job cutting on short cuts, but my current pancake air compressor is, I think, simply too small to support the plasma cutter on longer cuts or repetitive short cuts. My current Bostitch pancake air compressor...

What do the markings on this steel plate tell me?

That makes sense. In high quality or closely regulated processes, this would be important in the event something later went wrong with the item(s) made with that material batch. Many years ago I had a friend who ran a Honeywell diagnostic laboratory that investigated a U.S. military jet's...

What do the markings on this steel plate tell me?

THAT's significant, since I had grounding issues before I started to ground directly to the workpiece AND replaced the grounding clamp with a much higher quality one. Jim G
