the nice part about a vfd, is the starting charactistics, with a switch that drops full power on start up, like a contactor or what we call a magnetic starter, your hydro meter flinches a bit, and the lights dim etc, because as a rule of thumb, any current rating on any motor indicates running...

sometimes, with no load on, a motor will run quiet, its when its under load you hear things.... not saying thats the case, just bear it in mind.
