    Quality swivel bench vise?

Good day all, I'm looking for a decent bench vise like this one . I tried 2 of this brand, and the casting was so poor I broke one bending a 1/4" brass rod with my hand, and the other one just broke when I clamped something in the jaws. It was an extremely useful design , if only it had held up...

Pros and Cons of 3 and 4 jaw chucks.

Thanks for all the great input. I'll definitely keep both( and will confirm their both decent) and invest in a collet setup as well. That should cover my needs for quite some time. Ken

Pros and Cons of 3 and 4 jaw chucks.

Afternoon, I'm stuck in the house with a cold/flu, so I've been reading a lot and watching machining videos until my brain starts hurting. I have what is probably a totally newbie, knows nothing question that popped into my head. I ended up with both 3 & 4 jaw chucks for my W210 bench lathe...

    Adding colour to designs?

Wow, that looks like a photograph, not a drawing. Do you think this Fusion 360 is a good starting point for someone who has never used CAD? I'm not computer illiterate, but it's not something I know a lot about . Ken

One of the big ol' boys

That's really cool. I never really thought about machining parts of that size. Always figured they used some form of casting with molten metal. Something new for me to read about. Thanks, Ken

    Adding colour to designs?

Morning, I'm researching the different CAD programs available that work well for machinist designs, but I haven't seen anywhere that talks about adding colours to your designs. Is this possible with basic CAD programs, or do I have to break out the crayons?? Thanks in advance, Ken

    Basement Workshops Uninsurable??

No worries about going a little off topic. I know what I'm doing now. I find accounts from others about dealing with insurance interesting. I've always felt that the insurance industry as a whole is a scam on a gigantic level. They sell a product that you legally have to buy to drive your...

    Basement Workshops Uninsurable??

I actually made it crystal clear to them that it was 100% a hobby room. No business. I'm rather annoyed with them, since they dragged out this decision for 3 weeks. I must have emailed them 6-8 times asking why it was taking so long, always a different reason given. Plus we've never made a...

    Basement Workshops Uninsurable??

Thanks Dabbler, I think you're correct. People have all sorts of things in their homes that have the potential to be dangerous. In reality a gas stove, wood heater, or even a heat gun are far more likely to cause problems . I'll go this this route and see. Ken
