    "Power Twist" replacement V-belts

What's the word on "Power Twist" replacement belts? It would be so much simpler to replace lathe belts. I haven't tried one yet, but there's one belt on my lathe starting to show threads.

Turning the thread on a chuck mounting plate

Or get some machinist's blue dye and let that be witness where the threads make contact. It's something I should be getting anyway. Sorry, very busy time in my life right now - not getting out the shop to putter around as much as I'd like to.

Turning the thread on a chuck mounting plate

Hi Peter, You're right to ask - I just assumed that the thread is 2.25"-8 but that's mostly from a rough caliper measurement and I sponge a lot of info from the Grizzly 12x37 owner's manual. That could lead to all kinds of problems because my lathe is ACTUALLY a Central Machinery/Enco 12x36...

Turning the thread on a chuck mounting plate

Thank you for the Joe Pie video link. That's a novel approach using the dial indicator that I wouldn't have thought of. The size of ID thread and pitch is close to what I have to work with here. A little bit of investigation on my part has turned up an explanation for what happened to this...

Turning the thread on a chuck mounting plate

Argh it's even more complicated than I thought. Very good point PeterT about the test-fit... "to what"? I didn't think of that. All I have on the lathe now is a 3-jaw chuck. And it's only a 6" chuck so while I say it can grip the shoulder, I can't say how well... you know if it's on the last...

Turning the thread on a chuck mounting plate

Hi When I got my lathe last year, an unused chuck mounting plate was included with it. It's unfinished because there are no holes drilled yet for mounting anything, but I'd like to mount a 4-jaw chuck on it. Trouble happens because the threading was started to match my lathe's spindle, but it...

    Work table/bench

The one thing (and definitely the only thing) that the guy who lived at my house before me left behind that was really good was a pair of work benches in the garage. The two are identical, sturdy as hell, and barely jiggle when sawing steel stock in the vise. A bit like DPittman's picture...

    Sourcing Metal | General Discussion

Thanks Peter, my experience is much the same. For example, Atlas became Ideal Metals, then became Ryerson. I haven't been in contact with them for almost 10 years, so I'm quite out of touch. Recently, there's a new supplier named Calgary Metal Market on 41st Avenue NE. I've been meaning to...

    Sourcing Metal | General Discussion

The reason I ask is because it's a "backburner" project I've wanted to finish for a really long time. I have always wanted an easy-reference chart of local or on-line suppliers of materials and processes to refer to. Mostly for work (aircraft specialty modifications) where we find ourselves...

Meet & Greet in Chestermere, AB, Tomorrow, Sunday, November 28th, 1300h to 1800h

Sorry to be a no-show. I did some electrical wiring wrong yesterday and it left one our sheds with no working lights. Had to fix it, quick. My wife was quite annoyed to be feeding horses in the dark!
