    Brilliant! I was going to try this using a diamond engraving bit to scribe the box outline and then use shears and tin snips. The ramp-in idea is perfect.

    Silly thought, assuming you have a DRO on the lathe. Do the dowel or cerrosafe routine, or moldable wax. Could even use spray foam and plastic cling wrap. Put a threading bit in the tool post. With the lead screw disconnected, move the carriage and bit to a nice snug fit into the molded...
