    Lathe 12x36, $14,000, Claresholm, AB

Grizzly G4003 tricked out with everything shown on the kijiji listing would be about $8k US, so maybe this price includes an indentured servant to run the lathe?

New to me RF 45 ..... In the shop

Luddite opinion. A VFD is nice, but doesn’t really provide consistent power output. A VFD 2HP motor at rated 1750 rpm canproduce 100% of rated torque. Run the VFD at 1/2 speed (30 Hz), it produces 1/2 the rpm at the same torque, but only produces 1HP. HP = RPM x TORQUE / 5252. But if you use a...

    Milling boring bar set 100$

I believe the main Lenmark office is in Langley, BC. Decent folks, will dicker to a fair price and don’t usually leave machinery out in the rain.

    Busy Bee CX603 VFD?

Comes down to risk/benefit analysis. My RF30 mill now has a second-hand Baldor 2HP 220/3 motor ($150 off Marketplace) and an Amazon SIPUN 2.2kw VFD ($150). Works just fine, but my experience with Amazon electronics gear is about 20% failure rate. So I expect that I might need to replace the VFD...

    SFM RPM Chart

While I was at it, did a chart for my RF30 mill. I have a 2hp 220/3 motor and VFD, with the VFD programmed for a range of 30 to 90 Hz operating frequency to the motor. I may increase the range as I get more familiar with the machine, for now I feel it’s a reasonable spread that won’t tax the...

    SFM RPM Chart

After spending way too much time on this, I revised the chart to print nicely to 5"x7" and spent 50 cents at the thrift store for a metallic picture frame. I don't have a colour printer so it's boring. There's some sticky stuff from the price tag that I didn't notice before I took this picture.

    Show us your shops!

I have no pride, here's my shop(s). It's actually reasonably neat today. Lathe bench, big tool cabinet and ready-use bins for fasteners. Milling machine corner. Big CNC engraver & chemicals. Drill presses. Bandsaws and smaller tool storage. Laser engraver, CNC router, manual engraver.
