SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

This morning I looked again to see if it was possible to pivot the 83T idler gear to the back of the lathe rather than swap it out for a 68T and move the idler axle to a new hole. The headstock drain is in the way. It would be necessary to remove the standoff pipe and put a pipe plug directly...

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

Thanks for the info @Brent H ! That makes complete sense. My 1120 does have a tapped hole in front of the input gear boss in what seems like the correct location to secure the banjo. A friend of mine let me know that he has a 3D printer now so he's able to print for me. That could either be...

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

@Brent H how does the banjo fit over the oiler on the quick change input shaft? When I was considering making the banjo in the first place I assumed it needed to pivot around the input shaft, but the oiler on there complicates things. Just pull the oiler out and install in the banjo so you...

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

John, RDGTools sure have a good selection of gears for the Myford lathes! I could pretty much buy every gear I need but they are DP20 so the 127T gear would be larger by a little more than an inch in diameter. I'm really starting to like the idea of machining at least some of the gears from a...

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

This is the 'swing bracket' for the 10" Utilathe: This is from a the reproduction paper copy I have for the 1120 and 1334: (note that it looks like a horizontal rectangle under change gear A and B) One thing that confuses me about the setup above is the centerline of the 36T headstock gear...

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

I believe the gear specs will work across the range of old SM machines, but as I said above, I think there are various banjos. I'll look through what I've collected to give an example.

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

Thanks, Brent! Is the banjo different on the Utilathe? I've never seen any of these banjos in person but the images all seem different if you have a metric machine and want to cut imperial gears, or don't have the 1120/1334.

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

Ideally we need to find someone with an imperial 1120 and the conversion gears on the machine! I haven't found a dimensioned drawing of the banjo yet, but it may be out there somewhere.

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

I also have a dividing head. Of course no 127 role ring on the plates, but I could make a rough 127 hole plate for the dividing head which would reduce the errors by the ratio of the dividing head gearing. If I take a twist on @DavidR8 'S idea and make the gears out of plastic it would be...
