    Tapping stand

I’ve tapped as small as #2-56 on mine and up to 3/8” probably although 5/16” is my personal preference for an all-round nice size. And yes like Peter says, with the small sizes you do need to careful — another reason I like to finish them with a handheld handle. -frank

    Tapping stand

Yeah, most of it is way overkill. The weak link is the chuck — just a keyless from a scrapped cordless drill — and without some kind of square to engage the square on a tap it’ll slip. Realistically though the handiest part of the process for me is not tapping the entire hole but rather getting...

    Tapping stand

Yup, made mine out the top half of a 14” bandsaw I scrapped. Works nicely although I think I may add a crank handle somehow to supplement the T-handle I built it with. The table was an old lathe faceplate that I had come into somehow, it swivels on the channel iron base although most of the time...

Site slow or unreachable at times

Seems to be better the last four or five days maybe. A few times I wasn’t able to connect right away but it didn’t last long. I have Telus which can be a bit squirrelly on its own recently it seems. -frank

$1200 6x12 Surface Grinder In Nanaimo

I know that seller, I bought my shaper off him a number of years ago. He’s actually a machinist and fabricator, I wonder if he’s slimming down the shop equipment. Super nice guy, still have his card on my fridge. -frank

    Cleanup tap

I had to come up with a tap today to clean out a couple small holes. They’re on an old Singer Model 27 (circa 1909) that I’m giving a once-over to in the shop. It used to belong to my older sister but she never used it other than as a display piece so all the old oil is really dried up and...

    Atlas Lathe

Yeah no kidding! Up until about a month ago my closest sister was going over pretty regularly to settle my older sisters estate but that’s not needed much anymore. Otherwise it would be really tempting. I have one 618 as well as the Craftsman version of the same so would be exceptionally well...

    Atlas Lathe

Sweet. If I’m not mistaken that is a 612, the baby brother to the 618. Turns 12” between centres by 6” swing. I’ve only been up close to one in the wild and they sure are cute. I’d love to have it were it not in Vancouver. -frank

    Lucky Anvil Find

I think you could say it’s more of a regional thing, if you want to call continents “regions”. You find this style more typically in European anvils rather than the American or English. Peddinghaus still makes their anvils in this style I believe, as does Nimba out of Port Townsend although...

    Lucky Anvil Find

Not finding that mark in my big book of anvils, but good find nevertheless. -frank
