    Don't do what i did.

Just a thought: Ever looked into "flame straightening" - there's a few youtube vid's on this. Actually a pretty interesting process. I've played around with it some - had some success, some not so much - burned up some oxy-acetylene too. Keith Fenner's got a pretty good video of prop shaft...

Pumping cutting oil with a coolant pump?

Update for an old, dead thread; I had asked whether or not a centrifugal pump would pump ~ 20Wt cutting oil with enough force to clear chips from a .450 dia. reamer that was ~27" down a .450 dia. hole. (a through hole - oil pumped in from the end opposite the reamer). Well, I finally got some 20...

    Is it even possible?

I get that sometimes, mostly with mild steel and light cuts. Mild steel can be kind of gummy. I think what's happening is you're getting some built up edge (BUE) right at the cutting edge and then every once in awhile, it smears, kind of galling the surface finish. Only way around it (that I've...

Dreaming of a power draw bar

I wished for a PDB for years - reaching up there for manual tooling changes just wore me down. Finally built a simple one using a Princess Auto Butterfly wrench. It was a great improvement - with one caveat : watch your air pressure and think twice before making any heavy cuts. In the last 6...

    Electric panel questions.

My furnace was installed at the same time as the "rough in" wiring. I installed insulation, V/B and drywall above the furnace location, where the chimney went (horizontal) through the wall (before furnace). Also where the 3/4 plywood will go for the panel. Built access hatches in the ceiling...

Anyone Use a Floating Tailstock Die Holder?

An easy DIY project. They work well. That one is for larger dies, I made one for smaller too. I power feed them quite often. Smaller dia. work you can just grip the knurling by hand, larger, tougher going just plug the handle into a hole and turn by hand or power feed.

Positioning keys width underneath a milling vise

I don't use them, they don't get it in perfect alignment so I still have to square up the back jaw with a finger dial. If you remove / replace the vise very often, they're a protrusion that just gets in the way of sliding it on / off the table.

    Electric panel questions.

"The 600 is not a bad price....." No, its not a bad price -- installer said it had to be ~20" wide x 18" deep - (both gas and electric in the trench) you'd need a little backhoe to do that. I dug it by hand - over 2 days (3 or 4 hours a day was about enough for me).
