Welcome! I’ve got a small sherline setup, so know some of the challenges of smaller machines. Brad

So here is method #2 This method would seem easier to do .... as you are just 'filling in the gap', but Sketchup has a hard time with it (and I have a very hard time with SketchUp with it, so I do my earlier 'abstract' method .... if anyone knows a better way to do this type of workflow, please...

    Welding cart build

Here's a quick way to do your rounded corners. A little different from your approach, but can also be done another way (will do a second post). The tool of importance is the "Follow Me" under the "Tools" menu. I'll dub this 'The Abstract Way' Step 1: Start your layout of either the inside or...

Is there a better way of holding this piece.

Yup, the pin is in the dovetail .. Easier to draw than a reciprocating dovetail ... Although, per the original drawing, the slot does pass along through the dovetail plane .... I got sidetracked just looking at the first setup picture, and my brain went "well if they couldn't hold it on the top...

Is there a better way of holding this piece.

Another option, is to use the vice and a set of parallels to raise the part up high enough to get the saw in.. ... my Univ drafting professor hated me (well, my work actually) .... I grew up doing a really rough, barely intelligible 'sketch' with the important numbers, then headed off to the...

    The swarf shop

The new garage has a 14-30R (aka 'Dryer Plug') on the wall along with a single 5-15 outlet. At work, we have a few 30A power distribution units from a few generations of equipment ago that aren't being used. I called the boss up and discussed how much $$ it's worth not to inventory one every...

Is there a better way of holding this piece.

Another option would be to place it in the top side of the vice on parallels to raise it up to clear the vice. I was getting thrown off by your dovetail feature with the first reply ... This would be the 'safer' and easier way to go (as the vice is usually indicated in already) Brad

Is there a better way of holding this piece.

Only one gotcha with the above... if those dovetails aren’t the full width of the part, you’ll need a spacer below, else you could ‘tip’ the part. Brad

Is there a better way of holding this piece.

I’m guessing this is your last major operation on the part? I’d personally put this part on a tooling plate, blocked in with clamps on the base, and held down from the top at the dovetail with some round stock (or a made to fit piece in the dovetail) Another option (if you were to start...

    The swarf shop

I’ve done this a few times. Dremel with cutoff disks are your friends. I haven’t drilled into them, I just use the existing holes, or add in clamps... We’ll see with this one! Brad
