  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Anyone know there way around O/A torch brands?

This would be my first steps. O'rings and any other seals. Take a good look at the needle valves, too. Hard to adjust a needle that has a great bloody groove worn in it from being over tightened too many times. And, never discount a crap gas bottle. We used to go through a LOT of gas, both for...

    Cheap Bstrd Thread

Meh. My ex went grey in her 20's, dyed it religiously, until one of her co-workers casually mentioned that her silver roots were amazing, and that she would die to have those... It's apparently, a matter of perspective and feedback. Who knew? LOL!

    Stores that still Price Match?

LOL! Lived in the Comox Valley for 8 years. Was a long while back, but I don't think you are wrong... I like living where I can't actually see or hear any complaints from my nearest neighbors.

    Off topic posts

Or its like the Dilbert cartoon, where the guy collecting out of all four separate bins, only has a single garbage bag to dump them in to...

    Stores that still Price Match?

Yeah, that works well enough, when you live in a dump big enough to have all those competitors! And, I say dump, because I have become VERY fond of living in places where I can shoot off the porch, or walk about my own lawn nekkid (seriously, nobody needs to see that!), without causing any...

    Stores that still Price Match?

Glad you have the option to ask, even. Us guys out in the sticks are usually just happy that the store has what I need or want, in stock. Trying to save ten bucks (OK, $12.50, since only one was actually needed!) on a buy that requires $100 worth of gas to get to, is just stupid... From here.

    Cheap Bstrd Thread

Awright... Lets talk vehicle mileage... Any y'all got more than two vehicles that you had over 750,000 Km's on? That's my record to date. Had a 1986 Mazda B-2000 truck, had over 750k Kms on it when I gave it away. I still remember all the 'organ donor' models to look for in the U-pick wrecking...

    Product Chuck for rotary table

LOL! I did a so-called "Advanced Machining" (pretty much 1950's machine shop class) course, we used the Rotary Table every day, vertically, without ever having a chuck on the rotary table. We did all our fixturing using step clamps (basic milling machine clamping sets), and sometimes we stuck a...

    I suck.

Intuitive controls was a primary requirement for a new milling machine we had delivered to our shop as a replacement for a Varnamo mill that had some serious electrical issues (that in the end, would have been better dealt with by tracking down a competent electrician!), but what we got was a...

    Rain in Edmonton

To a large extent, this was because the mills that were producing said "2 x 4" (etc.) dimensional lumber, were allowing for the amounts that were planed off the rough boards, after the kiln drying process.

The things that show up on FaceBook...

Yeah, but they have two sizes of Philips bits, at least as many Pozi-drive, and others. It's not like they expect you to eat a meal with the collection...

    Rain in Edmonton

Yeah. Except it would change entirely, depending upon when exactly the 'discussion' took place, A 2 x 4, WAS 2 x 4 at one time, but that changed through the years to mean smaller and smaller dimensions. Not gonna say it was a good thing, just sayin' it happened...

    Rain in Edmonton

Alright... Distance (furlongs) then Distance again (Rods), then Fathoms, which are a measure of depth (6 feet to a fathom, IIRC), a Peck (a measure of Volume, IIRC), a pennyweight (weight, not very much!), cubits (distance, the length of a forearm, essentially wrist to elbow), a Hogshead (a...

    Rain in Edmonton

During the mid-to-late 1800's, when the USA led the world in mass producing watches with actual interchangeable parts, most of the work done was in Metric Measures. Well, the stuff that was not being designated in French Lignes, anyways. LOL! IIIRC, Metric was deemed to be Legal For Trade use...
