Moore and Wright 6" Machinist Level

I picked this up on ebay for $137 CND from an estate sale on the east coast and hoped for the best. The pictures were smaller than these pictures. The pictures sent to me led me to believe that the level had rust pitting. My thoughts were once it landed here at home in Ontario, I could give...

Installing a DRO on my TOS FN20 milling machine

Here is a picture of the kit that I purchased 30 years ago to the month. Adhesive is still good. Figure that. Price in 1995 dollars, about $100. TonyK. Grimsby Ontario Canada.

Installing a DRO on my TOS FN20 milling machine

Hi Tom. Yes the flock is a powdered fiber that is blown on to the part. This is the cheap version flocking gun, if you scan back a few pictures in this post you will see a red can, that is the flocking gun I purchased 30 years ago from Lee Valley...

Installing a DRO on my TOS FN20 milling machine

Carrying on. When I converted my milling machine to CNC using Mach 3 the problem arises, just how far does an axis really move? Mach3 says it moved an inch, but did it? Mach3 needs to know how many counts from the encoder equals 1". The calculation. 1) Pitch of the lead screw, 2) gearing...

Installing a DRO on my TOS FN20 milling machine

On to the Z axis. As you can see the Z axis is the longest at 13 3/4". Here is a look at the slide on the bench. Although the travel is 13 3/4" the solid sliding way covers that I made reduce that travel by 2" on each side. The machine came with bellows way covers that were in really bad...

Installing a DRO on my TOS FN20 milling machine

Sadly the TAVI procedure will not work for a Mitral valve, open heart is the only option. One valve was in need of repair and once there the other was bad with Barlow disease. TAVI inserts a mechanical valve in series with the defective valve so open heart is not required. Luck of the draw...

Installing a DRO on my TOS FN20 milling machine

It has been 6 weeks since I had major heart surgery. Over the last 2 weeks I decided to get out into the shop and just do something. Nothing heavy but my mind needed to be worked. My birthday was in February and of course everyone wants to know what I would like for a gift so I said how about...

    Atlas Mill electrical woes

You bring forth a simple solution. As for how to wire the motor, we need to see the wiring diagram located normally on the motor wire terminal cover. TonyK. Grimsby Ontario Canada.

    Atlas Mill electrical woes

Okay, I cannot trouble shoot a connection wiring diagram as I have know way of understanding the circuit for this machine. Here is what I will suggest. Disconnect the motor and turn on the motor circuit and observe which relays pick up and if the contacts close. I suspect that the sparks...

Cincinnati No 2 Cutter Grinder Restoration

Here is a few shots of my #1 with some tooling that it came with. I don't have a set of centres for it. There is also an electro magnet surface plate for it I forgot about. I managed to find a vintage 600 volt twist lock cord cap set and install it so that I could move the work head motor away...

    Ammco 6" Metal shaper

Gentlemen. The issue with the Model 40 crawler was that the first 2262 units used the short 3 roller track system from the MC Crawler pre 1953 to use up stock of old track parts. The Model 40 once past that serial number used 4 and 5 roller track systems and were stable for dozer blade...

    Ammco 6" Metal shaper

Thanks for the reply. I only tried to hand start it once as the handle came around hard and almost broke my arm. Men back in the day were different to want to do this. Mine has an electric start 6 volt system. Not a lot of cranking before the battery is run down. Starter is a rod on the...

New to me Ammco 7" Metal shaper

Don't over push the machine. I can tell you that the 4 1/4-20 screws that hold the hub to the baklite gear can be torqued up without fear of stripping. So unless you crash the tool into the work, have the belts up snug to stall the motor, you should be okay not to strip a tooth off of the...
