Electronics has a lot of down sides as well: 1. it does not last - it breaks down after say 20 years in almost all equipment. Even military grade one does not last much above 30. 2. software can be DRM locked - so you cannot easily fix things or modify things without extreme expense. 3. fixing...

Damm, just checked - I was under impression what I got in a bottle was ISO 18 and if I add any ISO 15 it would be too water like! Turns out ISO 15 straight is actually... on the thicker side - the recommended oil is actually ISO 10 (!) Maybe I should do an oil change? I mean the thing leaks...

I always wanted to watch the stars... but somehow never got around to it. Except when I was a kid and when I was in college - took astronomy as elective - back when they did not have any extra terrestrial planets yet discovered.

Well, I run out of ISO 18 oil but I am mixing ISO 15 oil (its totally like water) with ISO 22 or ISO 32 oil to get "ISO 18". By any chance do you have electronic version of the manual? I worked on 1in just an hour ago - got it precisely at 1in plus minus like a tenth. I run at max 1500 rpm...

    2x72 grinder - Victoria $600

Yeah but at that point you may as well just buy new assembled unit - they go now for around 1300 - 1200. I expect the price to drop under 1000 as production increases due to demand.

I have very little oil left - I just added some. It does sound bad - I may take off the belts to see whatever it makes a difference. BUT, it seems to work - i.e. I use the lathe almost daily without a problem - I am just afraid to run it at full speed - at max. I try to make it sloppy and see...

Mini rant - who drills the holes on these economy lathes?

So I had the same issue with Czech made lathe - this is more or less German level. The holes for mounting the gap in the lathe were very hard to replicate as they were... all over the place. Difference of like 1mm+ Since it does not matter during manufacturing how much "off" the holes are from...

    Friction belt drive design

So I added a belt guide. The bolt in the lower part of the picture. This actually works - still not perfect - slowly builds heat when idle - so the belt rubs a little when motor is running. The pulley when dropped just few inches engages the hammer and the action is controllable - i.e. I can...

    Product Cordless tools

I have Bosch, Ryobi, Dewalt (recent) and most Chinese "brand" batteries for household tools. I wish there was standardization here - all 18 - 21v batteries are identical - they just have different molded plastic. Chinese strange brands usually follow plastic molding of a major tool brand.
