  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Lot of GIANT Spade drills - $40 - Calgary, AB

Well, the story is pretty typical, I bid on a lot at auction without closely looking and assumed the size/scale. Turns out I bought some pretty huge spade drills, which look mostly new, albeit with some surface rust from storage. I can't make use of them in any sense, but I'd like to offer them...

1.5 HP Baldor motor, 1140 RPM, for sale in Calgary

Brand new Baldor M3557 motor for sale. Held onto this for years thinking I would install it on a drill press, since it’s rare to get a low speed model. Ended up with a Bridgeport instead of buying a drill press, so I’ve decided to finally part with this. 208-230/460 3 phase unit, including the...

Does Anyone Still Make The Real Swiss or German Multifix Tool Post? (not an offshore clone)

I forgot to add, I ordered the Multi-fix package for my Chipmaster from: http://www.bellmachineryltd.com/new_qctp_sets.html I was able to have them add/swap toolholders for a fair price, nice to deal with.

Does Anyone Still Make The Real Swiss or German Multifix Tool Post? (not an offshore clone)

I can't recall the model name of it, but it was a VDF (Boehringer) lathe. It was a bit of a unique spec with a long bed and a special order gearbox with 10 HP motor. Adding a few photos for reference, I used to repair and recondition forge rolls. The large piece of stock is 15" Ø, sitting on a...

Does Anyone Still Make The Real Swiss or German Multifix Tool Post? (not an offshore clone)

I ran my Type C on a nice big VDF (German) lathe for 10+ years, and the machine was 25+ years old when I started, never had any damage, breakage, or slippage. Not once. 1/4" DOC in turning and 5/16" DOC in facing (4140HTSR / 1045 / Cast Iron). Also regularly turned IHCP rod, though lower DOC, I...

Does Anyone Still Make The Real Swiss or German Multifix Tool Post? (not an offshore clone)

Agreed regarding Wire EDM, it's a process that's been around for some decades but has become cheaper and more common as time goes on. Looking at old invoices for Multi-fix tooling... you could buy a hobby sized lathe and fully tool it up compared to the cost of say, a Type C Multi-fix with 10...

Does Anyone Still Make The Real Swiss or German Multifix Tool Post? (not an offshore clone)

I'm a big fan of Multi-Fix posts. I ran a bigger (18"x80"?) VDF (German) lathe for many years with an original Multi-Fix post and it was lovely. Had no issue parting/grooving under power feed (1/8" wide carbide tool) and taking heavy cuts (1/4" radial DOC in turning and boring, 5/16" deep cuts...

    Joining from Calgary

Hello to all. I suspect I may have already met a few of you over the years. I'm a Journeyman Machinist from Calgary, though I've been in management roles for the past 8 years or so, so now my machining occurs at home. I work in Maintenance at the Zoo here, prior to that I was in manufacturing...
