  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Telescope secondary mirror support system

Finished the whiffletrees last night. I have to fit the slots in the 3D printed light/dew shield and make a couple threaded pins to hold them at the right height. Pierre

Tips/Techniques Show your shop related 3DP

QUOTE="PeterT, post: 199809, member: 22"] This is an example of something I've been doing more as of late. When you want to fit something with some degree of snugness but the printer tolerance and/or part tolerance can vary a bit so it becomes a trial & error repetition. Sometimes its easier to...

    Telescope secondary mirror support system

The mirror was glued a week or so ago. Now I have received the carbon fiber plate to mount the focuser which sits in the grooves that are somewhat visible in the upper section. It will fit in between the two hoops looking to the secondary mirror. I also have the two whiffletrees cut from 1/2” Al...

    Looking into 3d printing

Sorry, I miss wrote. It was Dabbler not Sasquatch who saw the Prusa XL on his swing through this area. Opps Pierre

One thing for sure, is that the machines are maturing and therefore more plug and play unlike 20 years ago. Pierre

    Looking into 3d printing

Bambu with AMS is basically the way to go if multiple filaments is your future. Creality has a knockoff, although they don’t have the best reputation from their past machines. Prusa XL with 2 heads, I have 5, works right out of the box. Sasquatch saw it the day I fired it up! Bambu does have...

    Scope level

So, if I make file handles out of wood, I could be banned by zealots? Politics and religion are simply snakes in a dark rooms. You know it is there, but unsure exactly where. Pierre

Running Linux and which version in order to run WINE or some other WIN-7..WIN-10 option.

The only time I have issues with Ubuntu is when my mess up or just like in Windows, an update has occurred and the third party programs have not been updated to the new version.

The distributions will walk you through on how to set it up. Your laptop might only have one drive that is partitioned into two. Depending on the size of the drive, one can make a separate partition for Linux. Check you machine.

Sure the are many ways. I have been bit by VM due to resource limitations as not the whole system is available while using VM. Pierre

Dual boot is the proper way to go. Buy another drive and use it for Linux. In fact the best way is to buy two drives, one for the OS 250 Gb is good for this and the second one 1-4 Tb for data storage. Pierre

A near miss and big consequences

My mom had shingles twice for sure, and maybe a third time. Very painful. The vaccines were not available at the time, but once there was one, she lined up for without hesitation!
