    Outboard stuff

I play with different stuff than most folks. My sickness is reviving antique outboard motors. FWIW the proper term for most motors built prior to 1920 is "detachable rowboat motor" which is how the manufacturers referred to them. This one is actually built in 1925, but the design dates to...

Absolutely visit. Be prepared to go back in time if you do. You'll see what I mean if you pop over. The Clausing 8530 purchase was a stroke of good fortune as well as a case of helping a brother out in his time of need. Its been a good machine. Eventually I "might" get around to fitting it out...

I knew if I dug long enough, I'd find where this machine came from. I bought it from the fella in LaSalle who bought it from you. I now have it out here in St. Joachim, so its not far away if you want to visit it ;-) I understand the sellers remorse, I had the same thing when I sold my Atlas 7B...

Those are gorgeous. What material are they cast in? You worked in a diecast plant, I assume? Which one? Best, Chris S

    How many lathes and why?

I've had as many as five lathes at one point. Three were South Bends, one was a Logan, and the biggest one is a Cardiff Major built in Wales. I liked to acquire ones that were not in very good shape and make them look and behave better than when I found them. Enjoyed the challenge, I suppose...

Sticky What Machines Do You have?

I work on everything I acquire. Most of them need some attention to make them operational again. The amount of work ranges from simple cleaning and adjusting of points and fuel system service to a full and complete rebuild. I often say I don't do what would be called restorations because that...

Sticky What Machines Do You have?

I'm in southern Ontario (aka the "armpit of Ontario"). I have not seen the Kaufman article yet. I may look into checking that out. FWIW, I run everything I can. This past season I ran over 40 different antique motors on Lake St. Clair. I have several very boring but very short Youtube videos...

    'Allo from St. Joachim

Flywheel is sand cast at Skara Foundry in Mississauga Ontario. These used this pattern that was made locally by an acquaintance of mine. I never did get into sand casting while I was working. We were strictly a high-pressure high-volume diecasting company producing parts in zinc and aluminum...

they all vary. The little ones like this Lockwood-Ash are 2.625 inch bores with a 2.5 inch stroke, so approximately 13 cubic inches. I collect motors that date from 1909 up to the late 1950's (those are Mercs that are as large as 40 cu in). Best, Chris S
