No formal training in machining...what I know is from trial and error...a lot of it usually...and foggy memories of high school...
I have ADHD...so my hyperfocus jumps from project to project...usually due to finance limitations...
I like to tinker with projects that most would deem unnecessary...I guess I enjoy the problem solving process as much as the end result working to my expectations...I'll get a theory in my head...and then the hyperfocus kicks in and I can't let it go...
I learn things by doing them...my ability to read and retain instructions and concepts is limited...but if I can physically lay hands on...I can develop the process and skills required...
Never did well in math class...but in shop class...I felt the most comfortable...
My workshop...albeit usually a war zone...is where I can be the most at home...
