  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Small Injector Pumps

It is hard to know what sort of pressure his pumps develop. He does mention compression ratios of 20 or 22:1 for his diesel engines so the compression pressure must be at least 500psi and the injection pressure will have to be significantly greater than that. One sees pressures of 3000psi for...

    Small Injector Pumps

Somewhere Find mentions 3mm for the pump bore and he also mentions 0.3 mm stroke with the engine running. It would seem better to use a smaller (1.5mm, 1/16") bore so the stroke is ~4x larger and easier to control. Because he says nothing about how he makes these pump parts I start to wonder...

    Small Injector Pumps

Yes, in some respects what we are trying to do is less onerous than making diesel engines and injectors for the real world. On the other hand there is no way any of us in the hobby world can afford the equipment people use in the commercial manufacture of diesel injection systems - even the old...

    Small Injector Pumps

I posted the item while having coffee this morning and by tea time this afternoon there have been several very interesting responses. Firstly; I have looked at some of the discussion on HMEM but some time ago so I will get back to seeing what is new on that forum. Just addressing what is done...

    Small Injector Pumps

My main hobby is making small engines and having made several of the spark ignition variety I am trying to move on to hot bulb and hopefully full diesel types. The main challenge is to make the injector pump and the injector itself to handle minute quantities of fuel and in the case of a diesel...

    first mill??

I was being generic here, I really meant a vise where the moving jaw does not lift when you clamp on the workpiece - which happens with the cheapie types.

    first mill??

I forgot to add that I also fitted a power feed on the X axis and bought a 4" Kurt type machine vise (don't bother with anything else.)

    first mill??

When I set up my workshop ~20y ago I decided that a generic RF 45 would suit my needs and in fact it has served me well. I did retrofit with a VFD and DRO. I used a 2hp VFD (same power as the motor supplied) but 1 1/2 would be adequate for most purposes. Nowadays DROs are far cheaper than when...

    Some interesting free "CAD" programs

Someone in our club introduced me to Solid Edge. They have a Community Edition which is free and basically a stripped down version of what they sell to the professional world. (You don't get things like the FEM package.) It does seem to be a fairly powerful 3D program but not too easy to learn...
