I have the bushing and bearing on order for the pulley shaft. I should have had them in stock before I pulled it apart the first time. So the cap that covers the front bearing on the intermediate shaft is removable from the outside?

Morning Dan. It sounds the same as mine. Did you replace the oilite and ball bearing on the pulley shaft when you had it apart? I was wondering how to get the oilite bushing out of the case? I seen the recess on the front of the machine for the intermediate shaft bearing, but I didn’t know it...

Morning Dan. Well I can tell you I am no expert when it comes to lathe gearboxes, but it does make sense. I know you can buy drain plugs with magnet attached. You would want to make sure that the magnet doesn't dislodge and stick to the gear train!! Also maybe put the magnet in a ziplock bag to...

"Name that noise". Standard Modern Series 2000

Morning Danzo. Once I replaced the two bearings on the intermediate shaft the noise went away. Where you able to get the shaft out? I had to make a spacer with the OD smaller than the gear box, then split it in half so you can install it on the shaft in order to get enough travel for the...

Thanks Mike. Mission accomplished! I had to make a spacer to sit on the shaft because I ran out of travel on gear #16. It started hitting the housing. Both bearings are toast! You saved the day!!!!!!!!!!!! Jeff.

Hello Mike. Thanks for the help. I just couldn't see how those bearings could be moved from the inside out. I have the retainer plate and bushing removed as well. So you are saying gently tap with a brass hammer or brass punch on the gears in yellow?

So here I am this far, but can't seem to move the bearings on the intermediate shaft. Does the rear bearing have to punch out from the inside? You can see all of the filings in the bottom from the gears grinding.

Thanks Brent. I am going to tackle this on the weekend. I have been speaking with Danzo187, and he has schooled me on the removal of the main gear, but what kind of job is it to get the intermediate shaft out? I have two new bearings for it, and It would be best to replace them when I am that...

Morning all. Here is the noise that I have been referring to. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to attach a video so I went this route. It is most noisy at the back of the machine. Noise completely goes away when both gear selectors are in neutral.

Thanks for the info Brent. I am quite certain the noise is coming from the intermediate shaft somewhere. With everything isolated the pulley shaft is very quiet, as well as the main shaft, but the noise is quit relevant when the intermediate shaft is spinning. Also can sometimes pick up a...
