    Time for some fun

(I grew up in a small town in Southern Quebec) -karate chop Big Jim. -riding in the open trailer behind the car when the car was too full of adults. -being in total fear of being called to the principal's office due to the very real threat of getting the strap. -being taught to properly use...

    Parts washer solvent

I'm pretty much the same way Susquatch. Worked with it regularly for my job in my 20s and never bothered with gloves. For a quick wash of one part, I don't worry about getting a little on my hands, but in order to keep my wife happy, I wash my hands a few times to remove the stink. :-) When...

    First post, sort of.

Welcome from Prince Edward County, ON. Best of luck with the reno! I started my (rather significant) reno last October and we should be ready to move in in early June. Hope all goes well for you with the new job and house!

    Parts washer solvent

I'm just changing my parts washer solvent now with my move to the new house/shop. I have just used regular Varsol in the past. Only had problems with the smell (in my 2 car garage shop) when using the washer, and then a bit the next day. Closing the lid seemed to stop the evaporation process...

that is the fun of it for sure. When you're restoring stuff, it's always handy to know someone with a mill and a lathe. ;)

Welcome from Prince Edward County, just a short three hour drive south west from you. :-) Car pool to Cardon's wouldn't work, but looks like a cool place to maybe meet up for a visit. :)

Shop CX709 & CX601 - New machines unpacked and in place.

LOL! Just built the divider wall, painted everything white, and added in enough LED lights to put an operating room to shame. Looks pretty nice now, but we'll see how it looks in a couple of years once it's "broke in". ;) Having said that, I'm living in my shop right now until the renos are...

Shop CX709 & CX601 - New machines unpacked and in place.

Picked that box up on sale at Canadian tire 10+ years ago. I had a look now and I don't see it listed for sale now. The drawers are a little tall for a true tool makers chest, but it worked for me until now. I was bursting at the seams so I picked up the two bottom chests at Home Depot a...

Shop CX709 & CX601 - New machines unpacked and in place.

LOL! @Susquatch, what you say is very true. :) I decided on new as I have 25 years of accumulated repair/restoration projects, plus a bunch of other things that I want/need to do in my retirement. I had thought many times over the years about getting a used lathe and mill, and putting in the...

Shop CX709 & CX601 - New machines unpacked and in place.

I mentioned in my original post that the wood bases are temporary as I had the LVLs laying around, and not having any experience, I wasn't 100% sure what height will feel good for me. Once I'm comfortable with the machines and get a better idea on what height is good, I'll weld up a couple of...
