    Weiss VM32 CNC Conversion

Yes, I use IOSender Touch or regular IOSender. Lots of folks using Gsender as well, though that is maybe more biased towards woodworking.

We did a poll. About 70% of people use GRBLHAL and 30% use LinuxCNC. I use GRBLHAL for the most part.

Rumour has it that there's a new FlexiHAL in the works... I know how much you like experimental hardware :) https://github.com/grblHAL/RP2040/discussions/127 (Disclosure, that is me)

In the above vid I am using a 1.0mm pitch threadmill to cut a 1”-27 thread. Big advantage of threadmilling is that with a single thread cutter you can do many different and weird threads and hole sizes.

Thread milling has no requirement for any kind of synchronization between the spindle and the tool. It's just cutting metal with a specially shaped tool.

    CX704 Lathe conversion

You can always mod the firmware however you need. But there is currently no quadrature module in the rp2040 port of remora.

Is this paper there to do what I think it is?

I think that with more rigid material the soft jaws in the chuck make it easier to indicate the part.

FlexiHAL has a spindle encoder input with LinuxCNC, picobob does not, so that would mean no threading with picobob.

    Maybe A Bit Too Complicated

Could be useful for doing a bunch of reworks sequentially for small production runs. But the Stickvise is a lot simpler for a similar mechanism and doesn’t need electricity. Also, I find I like to rotate the board I am working on to all angles, and this kinda makes that more awkward. I am...

    Granite base CNC router project

I have found Turtle wax from Canadian Tire to work incredibly well as mold release with both epoxy and UHPC concrete. I had no issues casting directly off a granite straight edge.

    Tool changer option

They're using the spindle as an impact driver. The concept is fairly reasonable in that regard. Rego-fix does publish torque specs for ER collets with various tool sizes. If you dig into it, you will find that with 2 hits (the default) you are getting the torque spec for ~4mm tooling...

Looking at other CNC router options.... what do you have?

If you have the budget and space, the Sienci Altmill is basically a full size PrintNC in a box. Big step forward for hobby routers.
