Vise ... who made it ?

Recently brought this 3" vise home. It has only one lonely "F" marking, and I have no idea who made it. It seems very well made, has 1/4-20 screws holding the removable jaws and bottom plate (with the "F"). The moveable jaw is attached to the acme screw with a very interesting (and new to me)...

CA-ALL Red brass shot, nuggets, ingots ?

I haven't priced this option, just assuming that any formed metal will be significantly more expensive than new casting material (about $15 / pound). That is plan B, add lead to unknown-alloy scrap. Yes it seems the pure metals are more easily sourced (compared to specific brass alloys). Most...

CA-ALL Red brass shot, nuggets, ingots ?

I am looking for casting nuggets/ingots not rod/hex/tube/flat-bar. I actually called those folks, the gentleman I spoke with had no understanding of casting material. Do you have a source for nuggets or ingots ? Like this but in Canada : https://www.belmontmetals.com/product/brass-cda-83600/...

CA-ALL Red brass shot, nuggets, ingots ?

I don't think shell casings are leaded. So far the scrap I've been melting are not easily machined. I could add lead, and may try that, but am looking for a supplier of known-alloy (85-5-5-5) brass. Thanks for the reply, Dave

CA-ALL Red brass shot, nuggets, ingots ?

I am looking for leaded red brass casting material. Any leads on a Canadian (ideally western Canada) source ? Small quantity, maybe 10 or 15 pounds. Thanks for any ideas, Dave

    Groups io

I am definantly not going to mention participating in rec.crafts.metalworking (rcm) in the early 1990s .... oops. Those old usenet news groups were pretty interesting although the content often degenerated into crude chaos. But there were many gems, including Scott Logan in rcm, he was an...

AXA Tool Holders.... What do you think? Worth a try?

Or wait until I put an unused set in the classified. Short story, I bought this set : https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08H5XQXCK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 without checking the stud on my compound ... it was fixed and had a huge shoulder ... toolpost wouldn't fit ... so...

I too just opened this thread for the first time and your post reminded me of something ... so it's story time :) My first wife and I bought a house in the Forest Grove area in Saskatoon 30-ish years go. The house was one of the first built in the area, not counting the CP homes built beside...

    Tool Post Grinder

Maybe a dumb question, and also a slight detour, but why not use a 6.5 mm collet ? I have various ER sets, all metric, and since they have a reasonable clamping range I have always found a metric size that works for an imperial shaft. Is this a bad compromise ? Dave
