    CA-AB Drill rod/Silver steel Calgary

Quest Industrial in Calgary stocks W-1 drill rod. If I'm going to harden it, I prefer O-1 (oil hardening). I have read that A-2 warps less when hardened but any time I've looked, its considerably more expensive.

Looking for Useful uses for lead

For fluxing, I like Pine rosin (that'll clear out your sinuses). I source pure lead and add ~4% pure Tin (helps to fill out the mold). I cast at 820 deg F because that's where I get the best mold fill-out. A couple years ago I abandoned bottom pour and bought a ladle, also added in a PID temp...

Looking for Useful uses for lead

I'm with Johnwa. I'm a life long target shooter / lead bullet caster (73 Y/O). Lead becomes hazardous when its vaporized - like at an indoor shooting range - small amounts are vaporized by the blast of the burning gunpowder. Most modern indoor ranges have very advanced air filtration systems to...

    VFD programming Hz ?

Thanks for your help --- Much appreciated !

    VFD programming Hz ?

OK, seems I've made some progress, went out to the shop to record and list P00 thru P07 while looking at the default parameters, noticed P03 (intermediate frequency) set at 46 while default is listed at 25. Reset P03 to the default of 25. Reset P06 to 70, seems to take it fine, reset P06 to 75...

    VFD programming Hz ?

OK, Thanks to those that replied, the manual posted gave me the sequence of buttons to push, was able to increase the max Hz but no joy. 1st attempt, plugged in 90 Hz -- motor ran but quite slow to respond, surging rpm, and as I rolled in Hz on the pot, it finally threw an error code and quit...

    VFD programming Hz ?

Thanks guys, I've printed that manual, I'll have to spend some time today poking away at those buttons and see if I get anywhere. I'll let you know !

    VFD programming Hz ?

2.2kW VFD Drive Inverter, 220V AC... So, I bought this VFD on Amazon in 2021 -- it works, driving a 2hp x 3ph motor with it. Variable speed works but max Hz seems to be pre-programmed at 65 -- I'd like to dial it up to about 90 but can't figure out how to do it (limited info came with it) ...

    Coolant recommendations

I'm strictly manual machines, I've been using the Princess Auto stuff (usually in with the bandsaw blades). Someone on here said they mix water /Methyl Hydrate with it to help keep the bacteria down. I've been mixing windshield washer fluid with it (-40 mix is 50/50). No rust problems, so far...

    Tool Post Grinder

For me, no thoughts of bearing fit-ups to "tenths". I'd be happy if I could cut a 1/8 or 5/32" keyway X 1" long in a shaft without having to remove it from the lathe. Of course, OD grinding would be a bonus too. What got me going down this rabbit hole was a youtube video of a guy cutting ~ 1/8"...

    Tool Post Grinder

So, looking at the original Machifit (Banggood) motor with the ER11 collets -- I liked the idea of ER collets because it would allow the fitting of small endmills of various sizes -- wondering if anyone has tried using a small (2,3,4mm) endmill for cutting small slots such as keyways in steel...

Tool Tools you acquired that are useless

I bought a cheap ($28 IIRC) electronic edge finder from Amazon. Totally useless. needs a 20mm collet, takes some strange batteries I'd never heard of. About 6" of stick-out of the collet and over .006" runout that far out. Should have known better. Oh... and the ball on the end is 10mm so offset...

Tool Keyed or keyless tailstock chuck?

Keyless are great for light to medium use -- not so great for heavy duty use -- the harder you work 'em the tighter they'll twist (tighten) themselves to the point of self destruction if you keep feeding them in.
