So, ran the counterfeit ones over de-mag several times, no ill effects but those ones weren't magnetized (yet). Ran the authentic ones over several times, no ill effects, removed most of the magnetism, still a slight bit magnetic but much improved and still reading as normal.

Well, I also have a set of counterfeit Mitutoyo's that were ~$40, I'll run them over the de-mag first, if that doesn't kill them, then the real ones will get a treatment. I'll report back.

I'm thinking that these calipers "read" a magnetic strip ? Am I wrong ? I hope so because I find the magnetism annoying ie; the jaws pick up tiny bits of swarf and I'm constantly having to wipe off the jaws and it sometimes takes 2 or 3 wipes to get it off. I was afraid that de-magnetizing the...

So, my (authentic, 8") ($300) Mitutoyo digital calipers jaws have become magnetic. I do have a commercial de-magnetizer but something tells me to not use it to de-magnetize these calipers. Comments ?

Well, I feel your frustration but I've also had more than one person say they will buy something I have advertised, say they are coming to get the item (with cash in hand) and never show up. I am part of an older generation and my word is my bond but it seems younger generations now .... not so...

Yeah, mine came with one, didn't know they were available without. Mine plugs in with a round, multi pin, screw on connector. Had mine since ~ 1997, done a fair bit with it, been a good little welder.

I too, am no electronics guy and my memory is getting a little old. I do have a Miller Econo Tig and I do have a memory of taking the foot pedal apart a few years ago and cleaning up some of the contacts in there -- don't remember the details but it might be worth a look in there.

Well, to answer my own question: I found ID honed hydraulic cylinder tube at Alta tube and Bar in Edmonton. Maybe help someone else locate similar.

Not a common size, so I think I'll need to build it. 1" bore x ~42", Calgary source preferred but may have to go outside. TIA

Link to a video of a guy that sharpens endmills, reamers etc. with a tool & cutter grinder. Guy has some nice tools, knows how to use them and is pretty good at explaining what and why he's doing things ! Several good videos from this guy.

Follow-up for those that took an interest / commented; Chatted this past week with my mentor / deep hole driller with decades more experience than me. I mentioned .0002 per rev feed and that it took me ~ an hour to drill a 28.5" deep hole. His response: way too slow, he would do that in about 20...

I've had some come in the mail, some were mailed from an address within Canada, some were delivered by what appeared to be a private individual driving their own private vehicle. Some sellers seem to have drop locations in Canada ? I don't know.

I use # 21 and #29 drill bits fairly frequently, ones I had were getting kind of long in the tooth and too small for me to re-sharpen. Recently bought 12 packs of both in cobalt from Amazon. About $19 and $24 respectively, delivered to my door.
