• Scam Alert. Members are reminded to NOT send money to buy anything. Don't buy things remote and have it shipped - go get it yourself, pay in person, and take your equipment with you. Scammers have burned people on this forum. Urgency, secrecy, excuses, selling for friend, newish members, FUD, are RED FLAGS. A video conference call is not adequate assurance. Face to face interactions are required. Please report suspicions to the forum admins. Stay Safe - anyone can get scammed.
  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Hello all from London Ontario

Forum documentation is always good. It may help current members, it may help future members, and this may seem strange, but sometimes I have posted build or repair threads on forums, and later referenced them myself to answer some question that occurred to me.

Made in/shop in Canada options - Links or recommendations only!

Dahl Valves makes valves and other bits in Canadian facilities, though a few raw materials are sometimes sourced State-side. I would not hold that against them. For the homeowner, a roll of all round, handy for many jobs, should sit right beside the roll of duct tape...

Made in/shop in Canada options - Links or recommendations only!

Bennett Paint Brushes. I pick them up at the hardware stores. The brushes say "made in Canada", but no reference to that fact on their website.

Made in/shop in Canada options - Links or recommendations only!

Royce Ayr https://www.royceayr.com/ I just bought two Canadian made table saw blades, they cost a bit more than the off shore home centre blades, but are far superior, IMO.

    Oh GREAT!

I just updated my Mac to the latest OS, and it gave me the option of installing AI. I took a pass, but I get occasional reminders. I do use Chat GPT once in a while. I recently asked it if humans should fear that we would become slaves to AI masters. Chat's answer was not that reassuring.

    YouTube $$

I just put up with the ads. After all, they monetize YouTube for hosting and provide income for site creators. Some sites are worse than others, a few sites I visit have no ads whatsoever. so I wonder if the content creators have some control as to whether ads are displayed or not. Some...

    Cherry Hill

A member of this forum lent me this book a few years ago, and I had the pleasure of going through it. Some of Cherry's inspiration came from historic patent drawings, but in some cases, the patent didn't and couldn't lead to a working prototype, so Cherry performed the necessary engineering...

    Tips/Techniques Hand Cleaner Experiments

I also use Fast Orange with pumice, bought when on sale, at Princess Auto. I am pretty sure the Canadian Tire brand is also made by Fast Orange - the containers look identical.

Wanted: Excello 602 R8 spindle shaft

If the above doesn't work out, you might try [email protected] via email. (Phone 905 882 6317). I spoke to him on the phone a couple years ago, and while he has downsized his sales of used machinery, he did say he had a contact with an elderly gent who was an excellent source for Excello...

    Scammers

Good on you for wasting the scammers time and having some fun doing it. I have said many times, the only safe deal is cash and in person. My prediction - A.I. is going to make these current scams seem like child's play. The scammers will become very convincing.

What Ever Happened to All of the Great Canadian Machine Tool Builders?

Standard Modern is still in business, and as far as ik know, the only metal lathe company still manufacturing in North America. While Canada did loose many major machine manufacturers, it pales to the number and volume of machine companies that disappear in the U.S.

    What House are you?

I generally tend to be a team blue fanboy but for battery stuff I am on team yellow - I originally bought a Nicad 7 tool combo kit almost 20 years ago, but when Dewalt finally stopped supporting Nicad batteries, and then the hammer drill died a couple years ago, I began converting to their...

Wood tool chest finish-boiled linseed oil?

I have done many wood projects with boiled linseed oil, the foot stool that I am currently using is one of them, and it absolutely does dry. It is always ready to re-coat after over-night. But, it has to be wiped on, allowed to sit for a minute or two, then, very important, wiped off. Also be...
