  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    DavidR8's shop shenanigans

I have a supply of old street signs and access to more when needed. It's amazing how handy free 1/8" aluminum sheet can be, especially the ones that are changed out due to reflect ability rather than bullet holes etc.

Little shelf looks plenty sturdy,...... reasonably level...... Been there for over two weeks?..... It's permanent. ;) :p Nice minimalistic, yet fully functional installation , pretty sure that is what you were aiming for there.

You need a pair of mirrors, if you only use one to read the scales it will be backwards and you'll put the material back on.

    Newbie gear cutting question

Being short in the bed such as it is, I would remove the chuck all together and put the workpiece between centers. Dead easy to swap from lathe to mill and you don't loose all that precious space the chuck takes up. Turn the arbor between centers on the lathe, turn the gear blank on the arbor...

On mine that can be adjusted out with any nut/jamnut under the dial. Or at least, that, is if we're both on the same page...... And I think my pages are soggy and stuck together today........ So, I may not get to the right page. :p

The shear tool that I ground is a piece of 1/2" hss as that is the size I made my tool holder and works well with my 12" shaper. The radius I put on the end was 1", I don't think it was planned, but since it matched my 1" radius gauge so closely, I am saying I planned that. Lol. There's a couple...

You are getting closer..... Try halving the cut.... Very light cut and a fine feed are the order of the day. Just running out the door.... You are on the right track, the chips are getting that long twisty wire look to them.
