Saw on one of the threads that you have a Tapmatic head you might want to part with.
Have been wanting to try a tapping head for small taps on the model engines I'm building. What would you be asking for yours.

I acquired a bench top milling machine built by B. C. Ames in Waltham Massacheusetts. Unfortunately there is no model or serial numbers. I believe it is a frankenmill converted from horizontal and fitted with a vertical spindle.

Does anyone have info on these mills?

I believe it is a circa 1910 Ames Precision Bench Milling machine with the vertical parts fabricated by a very skilled mchinist.

I have tried to start a conversation but it doesn't like my spam-like (?) content, or perhaps it is because I am a new member.

Hi Brent
I would like to contact you about a problem I am having with my SM 1020 rebuild. The ABC gear set binds on the intermediate shaft but I cannot see a cause. I have decided to remove the shaft and inspect, and would like your input on the steps. May I send you an email with more information, as here I am limited to 420 characters?

hi
im in ont n thinking about getting a cx601
what is the X travel ?

I'm in the same boat. I believe its 22.5", not the advertised 16.5. It is very similar to the PM30MVL, the L referring to long bed. Weiss Machine offers the VM32-L, with 840mm of x-axis bed, offering 22.5" of travel. The base casting looks identical to the 601.
Were you still interested in the Tennesmith brake in Kelowna? I can pass along contact info if so. We are just at the point of posting it soon.

I am going to Kelowna in a few weeks if you are still interested in some stuff. If not and you happen to be in Kelowna and feel like helping me price the entire shop that would be great. Let me know either way; we are trying to get it all done now.
Thanks - Jim

Hello,

I am interested in buying the adjustable parallels if they are still for sale. Just let me know. I would need them shipped as well on my dime of course.

Thanks,

just took it to the post office, my wife somehow put hruul as last name on form, I crossed it out and wrote in Pickett.
PO guy said it won't affect declaration form, but you'll probably see it on the tracking page.
Hello
I have the same machine as you
Could you advise me as to the type and source of the components to make a setup similar to yours.
Cheers

For my horizontal drive I use a serpentine belt from an auto parts outlet. The spindle has to be removed to install it.

+1 on a serpentine belt. No need to pull the spindle. Cut to length +2", grind 2" lap down to reinforcing fibers on both ends (taking care not to grind into the fiber), install on machine, glue with GOOP, clamp and let set overnight. Won't stretch, slip or rot.
