I was thinking both of Fireball tool's Cincinnati Mill and of kevin.decelles mystery shaper project and when I saw this ad... It has spent 2 years outdoors in Ontario.

The guy wants $5k or he says it is going to scrappers in December.

The scrap value of the cast iron is about 2100 with a few hundred more for the 3 electric motors this comes with. Most scrappers would charge a removal fee as well.

I'd offer him $1500 if I had my retirement shop.... this makes me drool. If you have the space and can move it... link to Fireball tools video with how to move it below

Want to start a real youtube channel to rival the likes of Fireball Tools? You're going to need this Mill. You're welcome.

I bought a few cast iron presses and a couple of surface grinders a year or so ago. Thought I could resell them or at the very least I could scrap them and make my money back. In the end I could barely give them away. Scrap metal dealers wouldn't even come look at them.

yep, I'm very familiar with the scrap removal market, in Toronto anyway.

Specialist removal firms that removed oil tanks and boilers used to be one of the few means of removal and disposal and they were very costly. Homeowners always thought they'd get paid for the unused heating oil in the tanks, yet the firms would actually charge a pump out fee and disposal fee. This was long before enviro fees. Their idea of disposal though was to pump the heating oil into their diesel cube vans.

The removal firms developed a clientele for old radiators by then selling the rads to firms who then refurbished and resold them. The removal firms made much more than the price of cast iron for scrap... and most of that in cash

Well, December is far away, ad posted a day ago. Unless he is re-posting and did not find any scrap dealer takers. Yeah, if I had a bigger shop and space and means to move it... for say $2000 it would be a cool shop add on! Just to have some fun running the beast!

they are awesome machines, but unfortunately are yesterday's machine for most commercial shops and too big for most hobby shops.

The price expectation and the decision to let it rust in a field is sadly amusing. That machine is not going to have a very merry Christmas

There's a bunch of that kind of equipment outside , rusting , where I used to work , at one time it was all good equipment and worked . At some point , the foreman decided he needed the shop space and , having zero knowledge of machining decided to shove it all outside . There are two big lathes , a large horizontal mill , a large surface grinder that was used to re surface diesel cylinder heads . The opportunity to sell any of it slipped away years ago , it all lays there rusting but is still on the books as assets.

I'd offer to take it away for free, as it would take a couple of days just to raise it out of the dirt.

It isn't worth 800$-per-hour crane rental.

This would have to all be done by hand, gantry crane and oilfield mats, onto a 15,000lb trailer. it would be a week just to get it on the road.

--but what a mill!
