Treadmill motor

All this talk about free treadmill motors, so I figured I need to try this out. Started with a Kijiji give away treadmill. The control board was not easily modified to work without the cumbersome interface panel. So I listed the control board on eBay for $100 (people were selling them for $150-200), sold next day, off to a good start.

Seems some people having success with cheap triac type boards plus bridge, so ordered cheap board via Amazon and I had a 50A bridge in my bridge bin. Mounted the bridge to the same heatsink. I really like using 1110 Utility boxes for cheap project boxes, I buy them in bulk for $1, a few cuts with the bandsaw and everything is contained.

Now I just need to figure out what the heck I'm going to do with this contraption, maybe a diamond wheel?

I much prefer 3-phase motors with VFD to DC motors (especially with a dollar store type drive). I think for something like a diamond wheel it should be okay. Personally I would not use it for a lathe or mill.

Put mine on my 6x48 belt grinder with the side disk . Removed the big disk and built a small disk with inseted magnets to hold 6" diamond disks. The tiltable table allows me to set a 7 degree angle, slow it down to a walk and sharpen carbide inserts. Full top speed still available for sanding. Basically a cheap slow speed diamond honing tool.
