SOLD - Leg vise

KeeponDragon

no problems... just challenges
It's history is colourful
As noted by at least 4 different colours applied to its exterior.
I'm unsure of it's age. But it's definitely post 1900's...

The spike on the leg is sadly missing...that's the one thing that made these useful as field tools.
I just now noticed, that it has been repaired at least once...see last photo. ()

that being said, it appears to have been a working tool, then potentially drafted as lawn or garden art...

Then I got my hands on it with the intention of putting it to work. Plans changed and it's clamped into what is my shop vice...

I'm not into it for much, but with the spring still there, its worth more than scrap art..it can still be a functional tool

Marketplace, the price jumps from 200 and up...
$175.00 obo
I will ship, at your expense. I have access to all major couriers through work.
So it's not hard to get a quote.

I love the hardware on it.

That's quite the lump of bronze under that glob of paint...

My father in law gifted me his before he passed away. It is in much worse shape than yours. I have it in my mind to clean it up and free the frozen screw someday.....

But my bench vise pales in comparison to yours. I LOVE that base! WOW!

I meant to respond to this on the 8th...but i was on my phone...at work...and I forgot...
Thanks for the compliment :)
I love that base...it's so heavy and steady...I can put material in the jaws and hit like I'm possessed, it doesn't even wiggle.
A pair of 16.5x7 brake drums, some ready rod, and a mud pump liner and clamping ring(?) from a explorative drill rig.
The drums average weight is 90-100 lbs depending on manufacturer, by my efforts to lift it, I'd say the liner is pretty close to that. The ring is 40-50 easily. The liner is about 2" thick. So I don't have to worry about it buckling any time.
A friend of mine has been working his way up the ladder on the rigs. Before his last promotion, he was a motorman...so stuff like the liners was easy to get. They wear out from the slurry mud they pump into the holes to get the aggregate out during drilling.
I do have a couple more liners in the driveway. And two offcuts of Kenworth frame rail. Methinks I might fashion some kind of drive up ramp to save having to jack up my vehicles when I do my oil changes. Or a really skookum teeter totter :p
