Refurb of Victoria Elliott vertical head

Well against all odds (mostly due to Chipper5783 's help and friends ), I am now in possession of a U0 vertical head for my bargain horizontal mill:

Since these parts may have been stored outside for a bit I figured it was prudent to tear it down and take a peak at the situation inside ( let's be honest i like taking things apart and seeing what makes them tick! :D ) . For once I had the forethought to use what was available to me, mostly the perk of working in an industrial setting. So I took it to work to putter with after hours and since everything here at the mill is greasy and dirty, it fit right in.

Other than having a wealth of people to draw knowledge from, they also have a sand blasting cabinet hooked up to a never ending supply of compressed air. This came in useful.

( the random number I found while cleaning has me slightly concerned :p)

I was meaning to post this as things progress, but I went ahead and did the work and figured would post later. This has caught us up to the best bit and the part I'm currently looking at tearing down : the head itself

No, you maybe wrong about the number, if like a lot of us ,that is the current number of jobs to be done! How you managed to skip over some of the others, I am not sure. Anyway, nice mill, glad you found a head for it, what tool holder size is it?

I have to keep looking it up but it is a Int. 40 tool holder

They are, imo, a very well made machine. I've got an Elliot horizontal (P2) and love it (Elliot was just a different marketing name for the same line of machines). In my shop it only gets used 10% of the time, but it does 90% of the material removal.

Lurking under a bench is the vertical head. Never used it, cripes, I can barely move it! Must have been a stronger, younger rendition of yours truly that stuffed it under that bench.

Have you a crane to mount it? Don't pop any chest muscles!
