Press fit tolerances

Anyone know offhand what general dimensions for a press fit of a 1/2" steel shaft into a aluminum bore would be? .002" undersized on the hole??? Don't spend time looking it up for me as I can find a book with that info also but I figure someone here likely can spout off the info in their sleep.

That should work - maybe a bit tight - 0.001 to 0.0015 should be fine for 1/2"

Locational transition fits and tolerances are a compromise between clearance and interference fits, for applications where accuracy of location is important, but either a small amount of clearance or interference is permissible.

Just heat up the aluminum for a shrink fit.

Depends on the application. For example the interference fit on a 1/2" dowel is only .0002"
