So, trying to break this down in my mind...

Used Kurt vise, say, ~$700, two axis DRO, ~$300, base unit $2800. Sound close?

Used Kurt 688 vise, 500$, Igauging DROs, 40$ each (What I sold mine for), that is 580$

So a 10" Shaper in nice condition for 3320$ is a little stiff. Some rich person will buy it for his living room. probably for $3000.

I'm being knowingly liberal on the vise price. This is not a DX6 (I have a DX6) but even if it were that's only another 80-100$ for a used Kurt vise MAX. I paid 700$ for my DX6 new about 6 years ago. They can be had for under 800$ NEW when they go on sale, or scratch and dent.

I think this is a beloved machine and the seller is having a hard time parting with it. Hence the price.

‘Buy it for his living room’

I spotted an older (70’s) forklift for sale a little while ago, and the seller suggested it ‘could be a real statement piece for your collection’.

I have always badly wanted a shaper. Luckily I don't have the room.
What about in your living room?:D

I think ideally a guy wants to find something between the $500 machine that has never seen a drop of oil in 10 years & this. But man that thing looks nice
