Melmax lathe - Calgary

s-l640.jpg

$7000.....o_O Lots of stuff with it, but still......

I bet it's brand new. Why do I think that? Cuz nobody in their right mind would actually ever use a lathe on top of a wooden cabinet with sliding drawers like that under it more than once! Holy Crap! Talk about a mess! No splash gaurd, no oil tray, drawers full of swarf, drawer rollers that don't work anymore....... Wow. Just wow.

Nice looking machine though. Makes a nice picture too. Belongs on the cover of a marketing brochure. But I would want a machine I can actually use.

And frankly, I think 7k is too much even if it is new with lots of toys. But that's just me.

With all due respect to the owner of that machine, I think he or she has a higher value placed upon it that is reasonably expected in the market. Looks in decent shape, Taiwan and not mainland, lots of goodies with it, but I have a suspicion it will be listed for a while.

But it comes with some great accessories: “ton of carbines!” Depending on the caliber could be lots of fun to shoot!

If you read the full description it gets even more entertaining......

I gotta find some of those matrix taps and sideways oil.

Yup it's never been used.

Copied here for your convenience:

"Excellent condition (essentially a southbend lathe copy). Comes with everything in the pictures: newall DRO, bench with maple top, 2 beach toolboxes, boring bars, od cutting tools, a ton of carbines! Boxes of HSS cutter, brazed carbide cutters, Small selection of extra long drill bits, knurling tools, 4 jaw chuck, 3 jaw universal chuck, faceplate, steady rest, follower rest, assortment of cutting oils and sideways oils, a drawer full of taps including imperial, matrix and pipe taps, collet chuck(needs to be mounted), assortment of files, live and dead centers, 2 drill chucks and more.
The machine itself is in prime condition with hand scrapings still visible and slideways that look brand new, it is a bit of a pain to change from high to low range on spindle speeds but nothing a skilled person can't fix ( I just put up with it all these years) and the DRO is affected by some electrical noise that causes numbers to flicker. Also no reverse on the spindle( just needs a good Electrician to wire it up properly.
I am open to reasonable offers, I won't respond to lowballers. The buyer will be solely responsible for removing and transporting the machine."

Same lathe but different accessories - worth probably as much (lots of chucks) for 1250 in Calgary area about 6 months ago... I know inflation is high but we are not 1920s Germany yet.
