Huge deal, its the super rare ball bearing model, perfect chrome and collet tailstock...... and already sold. That could have fetched 1500-2000 imo.

You think so?

I have the same machine, maybe a bit better equipped. Paid $125 for mine back a lot of years! Not planning on parting with it, anyway! :)

Speaking with a watchmaker friend, he said that the plain bearing lathes have a better rep for maintaining accuracy over the years, thus, he was not interested in mine at all.

Mine has a three jaw, a watchmakers faceplate, 3 way slide rest, hand tool rest, an almost complete set of collets, plus the wheel collet set, among other goodies.

Was the first metal lathe I ever owned, back in the mid-1980's! I did OK on it, as far as value fer a buck, I figger! :P

I'd give you 725 for it right now (if its as good and complete as what was advertised), so yeah, it's worth that and more. Any lathe in good shape with a bunch of collets and slide rest will fetch that. Lot's has changed a lot since the '80's :D Lathe prices are unfortunately a lot higher, but on the plus side, no more disco.

I agree with your friend, plain bearing are better, but I believe these are sought after and somewhat rare. Probably also makes buyers feel good knowing that (assuming the bearing size is still available) you're not going to be stuck with bad bearings - although rare to see, bad bearings on a plain lathe makes it scrap. I proffer that 95% of the buyers of watchmakers lathes with never turn a balance staff, so what matters more than performance is the conviction that they need it or its better and it is a common (erroneous depending on criteria) view that rolling is better than plain.

The stronger driver of value imo is the condition of the plating and that its chrome not nickel (i believe) collet tailstock, slide rest and tooling.

Seems optimistic to me too, but I guess it only takes one guy that 'want's' it.

Not in any hurry to part with my stuff yet. Figure if I get run over by a bus, first guy to the door with a pickup and a $50 bill, is liable to do OK! LOL!
