Helping to sell a Lodge and Shipley 12” x 36” lathe. Has a 3- jaw, 4- jaw and collet chuck with collets up to 3/4”, faceplate, steady rest, taper attachment, 4 way tool post, #4 Morse tailstock and a Morse 5 headstock with L1-6” taper lock spindle mount. Thread dial, single phase 220 volt motor.It’s at my shop now and I can load with a lift truck. Pick up only in Niagara

It’s fairly slow. I think the highest speed on the spindle is 550 rpm. They are a pretty heavy duty lathe. It was a Cadillac in its day.
A friend of mine had it, but he went into a home. He had it for a long time.
 
When he brought it from his shop to home , he changed the motor to single phase. I’m not sure where the original motor went. I have been trying to clean the dust off it and oil what I can. All the speeds seem to work, but I can’t seem to get the cross feed to engage. The carriage engages. Trying to figure it out.
It says 12” lathe but it can easily turn up to about 15”. The face plate is about 14-1/2”
 
I don't have room to store this lathe for very long for my friend. The price is now $900.00. The collet chuck is sold. It is bigger than everyone thinks for being a 36" lathe. The footprint is 8'-3 long x 54" deep x 57" tall and weighs 3900 pounds.

It is a pretty nice lathe. I had one guy here but I couldn’t figure out the lead screw. I have it figured out now. He thought there was a broken gear or shear pin, but I was pulling the wrong way on the lever. It has a lot going on at one time with all the levers. Lol.
It actually cuts better than my 20” Martin DLZ502. The speeds are not high enough for carbide but it makes a beautiful cut with HSS. The 3 jaw is pretty worn but the 4 jaw is a like new Cushman. The only other problem is the sheet metal cover for the cross slide . I couldn’t find it at my friends. Easily made though. I’ll probably just make one so it’s done. I believe the serial number dates to 1948 according to serial numbers I have found online.
I guess it is much heavier than an import and takes up more room. Also it isn’t shiny new. I still bet it would out do any newer lathe. My opinion only,
