Seems steep. That said, I recall reading something somewhere about different wire drive wheels on these 140's? Some plastic, some metal & the latter were more expensive.

 
Definitely too steep. That's a box store 140. Would still be steep for the 140c with infinite dials that you'd get at a welding supply shop too.

I believe all the box store 140s will have plastic drive roller housings. The rollers will all be metal.

The 180s some of them have the same plastic housings and some are metal. With the welding supply versions (c) having an even better setup.
