I have a nice Seco parting tool but the inserts are crazy expensive. They are marked TGP45. Does anyone know if I can buy inserts from someone besides Seco?
I have a Seco boring bar. the inserts are over 70$US each. I'd love to find an aternative too. in 3 years no luck. I've given up. It will find it's way into my 'metal for reuse' bin.
These aren't THAT expensive. I paid $190 for that box of 10 but will be looking for a new parting blade before I buy more.
Anyone got a Chinese parting blade system your are happy with?
I'm using MGEHR system John in 2 & 3mm width. I was sampling toolholders from here & there, coated vs uncoated inserts so a bit of a mish-mash sources wise. I also had a requirement for both left & right handed shanks which these have. This may have been one on of the sellers but I'd have to check my notes. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/MGEHR1616-1...-MGMN150-G-NC3020-NC3030-insert-/152389905457
I was actually fully expecting them to be cheesy duds but its not like I was risking a lot of dollars. They are my go-to parting tools now. The one I reserve for aluminum is as sharp as when installed, its done a lot of work. I haven't done heavy plowing in any tough steels but I use the regular yellow coated ones on mild steel like 1018 & 12L14. They also did a nice job on 303 SS. Occasionally I break out a HSS blade if I have to grind a profile or oddball width so still nice to have. The other option in HSS is the T-blade which personally I prefer over the double taper type. The problem is usually the knockoff HSS toolholders can be iffy. USA ones are good but expensive new.
