King Milling Drilling Machine, $1900, Niagara Falls, ON

I know I want a milling machine but don't know much about them.
Would this be a good entry level machine to buy?
Would I be able to use the bits, cutters and tools that fit this machine on a larger machine that I may purchase in the future?

Depends. I believe this is a round column mill, which can be a pain. If it has an R-8 taper than hopefully your next mill will be the same, so tooling will then interchange.
If you go look at it, stop by. Or I would be happy to go look at it with you. Four eyes are better than two.

If it’s as new as seller says - then it’s a good deal.
List is $2100 + tax (& no vise)
Sq column, R8, variable speed via DC 1 Hp motor.
I’d guess it won’t last long. If he said ok to 1750 - start the car!!!

Yes to all.
I bought one from KBCTools last December, wonderful machine for tool, clock and model engine building.

The vise is totally inappropriate for the machine, leave it behind. I bought a 4" "precision machine vise" from BusyBee Tools. It is quite decent.

R8 collets from KBCTools are decent quality at reasoanble price. Don't buy a whole set, just 1/4, 5/16, 3/8 and 1/2 since that is diameter of most inferial cutters. If going metirc (as in affordable carbide) then 4, 6 and 8mm collets are needed.

I would disagree with that sentiment, big vised are just as handy as the smaller ones if you need it to hold a large dimensional work pieces....a large vise will also hold a small piece but a small vice sure wont grip some big pieces I've had to hold.

The ability to hold larger dimensional pieces is true, however, on smaller mills the larger vise limits the y travel as the front of the vise makes contact with the column. It also hangs far over the table on the handle end, blocking the dials and making the hand wheels difficult to use.

I think that the value of a larger vise on a smaller mill is totally a user determined matter. Nothing is too big or too small if that's what the user wants. If it works, it works.

Myself, I'd prefer a smaller vise than what is currently installed on this machine. Frankly, it looks silly. And at some point you have ask why.

But I've never seen any guidelines published by the experts or even by the manufacturers. So it is inevitably just the opinions of the users themselves that matter.

What OliverTO said. That vise might be ok turned 90 dg but not as is. Looking at the photos he is losing at least 1 or more inches in Y travel and so can never use the opening size. If you need to hold large pieces put them on a fixture plate. Or 2 smaller vises. Let alone the weight of the thing wearing away at the X and Y ways.
The vise I have let's you mount one face at the user end of the moveable jaw, plenty big.

Meh, I am selling Rf-30 for the same price in Alberta, new old stock and has more tooling with her as well as a stand.

If I had to pick my item is WAY better deal anywhere on earth - but this is also AB vs. ON so this is not a good deal for ON or I am offering smoking deal in AB.

Yeah I sold basically the same unit for $1800 in AB with a factory stand, in basically new condition and tooled up pretty good.

I'd say it's priced high for ON.

I have no problem with the size of the vise tho, extra weight can be a benefit on those little mills. If you need extra z clamp it to table or have a smaller vise. Probably good for 97.5% of what you'd be using it for as is.
