RealBull 7x 12
That's a reasonable/good price for somebody local. Looks like enough to actually start making chips. Change gears in plastic bag?

Seriously..a lot of the 7x lathes don't come with a steady rest or follow rest.
Here's the BusyBee Sieg 7x12 - $1150+tax with the steady rest a $75 'option'.

Though I don't know who would buy that BB, with this $615 lathe as competition (this Vevor is a RealBull, like the King, but the King might have had better QualityControl..)

So that $400 King is competing with a $700 (with tax) Vevor and the King has the live center, steady rest, and some cutting tools.

Look at that tiny steady rest!

That's an interesting discussion; thanks for the link. Reading there, I thought you concluded that the aftermarket (LMS) bearings that you installed were the primary cause of the problem?
Parting tool digging in and stalling the lathe (or breaking the insert) might be a symptom of general lack of rigidity in the lathe setup - all the way from spindle bearings to cross slide and compund gibs, to tool post problems...and the 7x lathes seem to have all those problems. I have seen most of those in my lathe. :) How thick was your parting tool blade?

You mentioned parting between chuck and tailstock center - is that 'OK' ?

BTW, I bought a set of those LMS bearings but haven't installed them yet; I decided I didn't want to sacrifice even more capacity (diameter) in the steady rest.
I did elongate the slots in the brass 'fingers' so they could retract further.
The brass fingers and lotsa oil did the trick for the parts I was working on; I've only used the steady rest a couple of times so far.
No parting beyond the steady rest, though - just facing and turning.
