I have two sources bookmarked for the rivets that have the spiral thread that are used to rivet name plates to cast iron machines,

But for the life of me every time I go to look to buy more I can't recall what those frikken things are called.

If I ever find out I'd tattoo the name on my ass. so I dont forget

I think drive rivets is the broader term. There are many kinds of drive rivets and not all of them work well for name plates.

I don't think I've ever seen them called screws. But it's not like I look at drive rivets 24/7.
 
We had an issue with the install of name plates on our drive cabinets. So we went to these and never looked back. They are also hard to take out compared to pop rivets. We had a problem when people put the wrong plates on the wrong cabinets After that became an issue we changed our policy to only lead hands and foreman could install them any one else would get a write up.

That looks pretty cool, but I see two issues. Specialty tool, and the need to fasten to malleable metal substrates. I'd worry about brittle cast materials.

I missed the words <cast iron>. I don’t know how well they do on cast iron, I do know they work perfectly on steel and ductile iron.
 
I would be surprised if there was a significant difference in the performance of these fasteners between any sort of steel and any sort of cast iron.

Assuming a reasonably sized hole, and not excessive hammer blows, the worst consequence seems to be a tear out. It seems very unlikely that you could generate a crack

They make their own hole, rather than utilizing a predrilled hole.

These would be great in square and rectangular steel tubing
