Home Depot Tool Cabinet Question

I need to buy a tool storage cabinet for my garage, and failing to find a 28" x 60" tall Lista or Rosseau Cabinet any time soon I have considered a 27" wide cabinet from the home depot.

I own a couple of middle tool cabinets and they're okay but I'm skeptical of their 150 pound capacity rating, which makes me a little skeptical about the 650 pound rolling cart capacity.

So any opinions or experiences, anyone have this combo and really weigh it down with tools? Good? Or should I save the 600 bucks to put towards a used Lista Cabinet?

Coworker bought a husky unit and had it totally destroyed within a month. The slides are very weak and everything is flimsy when weighted down. Probably ok for homeowner type use. Not for pro's.

Farmer next door bought Husky and is happy. But he is no pro user. I usually buy what's free or 50% off at Canadian Tire. But most of my frequently used stuff sits on convenient surfaces.

With tool cabinets, it's really all about expectations and budget. You don't need a 20k Snap On box to hold a few screwdrivers in the basement, but you can't use a $200 box as a pro mechanic either.

Often towards the end of the year, HD has a significant price drop on those Husky boxes. I purchased while on sale. My neighbour convinced me to get a HD pro card, he has several of the large roll around boxes with the wood top. During Covid he received a "Pro" flyer and they had an offer for Pro members for the large roll around cabinets with the wood top for $99 bargain of the century. He asked why they were so cheap and was told they purchase in large volumes and need to deplete last years stock before placing their next big order.

I'm pretty sure it was this one....

A couple more thoughts:
1) skip the top box and get one or two extra mids for more useful sized drawers for small machinist type tools.
2) I found this loaded box not to be super stable when rolling around, I removed the wheels and placed on one of those Shop Fox low profile bases, amazing what a couple of inches down and to the outside do for stability.

i have 2 of the tool boxes @slow-poke linked, they have served me well for probably the last 5 years.

I wouldn't fill them with 1000lbs of stuff, not super ridgid, but for general tool storage they seem to do ok

You'll never regret buying Lista cabinets after you've forgotten the cost! Years ago https://swissinstruments.com/ had used cabinets for a decent price. I purchased four perhaps ten years ago. Contact them to see what they have available. (Phone: (905) 279-1275 or

Also, Fastenal sometimes has Lista stuff on sale for believable prices.

I need to get bro to sign up for pro. I need a end of year or Christmas sale too.

Yeah I have two middle boxes, sadly they wont stack on top of each other without some modification.

IF I had a bunch of free steel tube I'd build a frame and just fill the frame with the middle boxes. But then I could put steel frame around a wood sides and then buy full extension drawer slides and make my own drawers. I can make a lot for $700

I bought Husky top and bottom chest just over 20 years ago when I was a mechanic. Still have it and it still weighs a good 400 - 600 pounds. The only issue I have ever had is a few years ago the hammer drawer had a spot weld let got where the drawer front attaches to the drawer slide. I still haven't bothered to fix it as it still works fine. That drawer has got to have at least 30 or 40 pounds of hammers in it. If memory serves I believe they have a lifetime warranty. Though is craftsman has taught me anything that is the life time of the company and not the customer.
