We've had a few board level repairs done for our older vf2 at work. I don't think haas supports it anymore, and the price they quoted to "fix" it was almost double what we paid for the machine. Same thing with out Nakamura lathe too. I'll admit the knowledge skill and equipment needed to perform those repairs is far beyond my skill set, but there are people that CAN figure it out. Quite simply a circuit board is a manmade assembly made up of a bunch of individual components, and if someone made it, someone can fix it. The problem is that some of those singular components may not be available to purchase anymore, from anywhere. The good news is that haas made a pile of them, and another machine somewhere probably failed for a different reason and somebody probably save some boards and drives for parts.

That was a long winded way of saying there is a secondary market out there for parts and support and there is no need to directly support Gene Haas' F1 racing budget :D. I wouldn't shy away from older industrial CNC equipment provided the mechanical bones weren't completely clapped out and it wasn't ridden hard and put away wet it's entire life.

Essentially this is a fixer upper for pp that know what they are doing, exactly like Dan said, buying one is like buying a classic old car - you may get some parts from secondary market at who knows what price, while others you will need to know how to fix.

Also this is a bit big for most home shops. I mean 70 amps 3ph is a lot of power. A LOT. Even supplying it with far less power then max needed, say 45 amps is around 25hp rotary at minimum running full power. Including losses that is more then 80 amps 1ph draw. Garage should have well over 100 amp supply, more like 200 amps. This not even considering space use.
