That mill would fit in the corner of my workshop maybe :p
I may have to sell my spleen...but it's worth it right?
Honest input though, are machines like this a bit overkill for a beginner?
My only time spent with one was back in high school 30+ years ago

I would say no, you have some time on these types of machines so that helps. Remember your safety rules and don't get caught up in the "wow, is this ever cool" moments like I and others have done ( I lost a only fingernail to my mill).
You just have to respect that the machine cuts what ever is put in front of it whether that's metal or skin, it doesn't know the difference.

It must be just the picture of the lathe but that doesn't look like a 36" between centers machine, decent price though. The gear cover looks like a replacement (shop made) for the original but done okay. The manual is on line for anyone looking at it.
 
The lathe is a great price, I'd love to have something like that nice size, I don't believe either would be overkill for a beginner good solid machines to learn on. If you have the space they look in good shape.
 
Agreed, if you have the space, power requirements, and a strong desire to get into the hobby, then this might be a good fit. Sure saves the having to upgrade because you outgrew the mini mill that most start with...... Besides, who really needs a spleen?

No in the picture it sure doesn't look like 36" but as we all know pictures can be deceiving. There were 12x24" versions of those lathe however. Unless there is something wrong with that lathe I would say that is a great price. The mill also looks in maintained and cleaned shape and reasonable price.

You can mill small stuff on a big mill but it’s usually impossible to mill large stuff on a small mill. On my small mill horsepower isn’t an issue but I would love to have way more table travel.

Fair warning my friend, That spindle taper is MT3 with an OBSCURE square tang. If the seller has no collets or holders, Stay away. Or fabricate your own mickey mouse tangs. Google that model and see the information.
Also that mill likely 100% has witworth threads and fasteners!

Perhaps the tang and Whitworth threads simply affect the price. It looks like a very worthy mill at a good price.

Since the guy used it, a great tactic is to insist that the MT3 collets be a part of the purchase price. everything else you can supply yourself.

If it helps perhaps I can help with the initial move out of the sellers place?

Omg...folks...please...I worded that poorly...she's getting spayed in the new year...that's all...we're just a little tight until I get my other side hustle going...
This is Trio...our 16month old mix Tripawd...best thing to happen to us in years, besides the grandkids

yeah...no...she's almost 60...without the 4th leg...she's a natural Tripawd too...the limb was gone when she was born

Omg I didn't even notice or clue in to the term " tripawd". I bet she manages amazingly well .
