Meh!

Some of you (us!) grumpy old buggers have a misplaced idea of value/price ratios! :)

If I were looking for a decent drill pres with options for milling work, I figure for the asked price, that one offers a lot of potential for the sake of a bit of cleaning.

Providing there is not a total lockup of the table motions as a result of whatever cleaning product allowed this thing to rot like that, anyways... WD-40 washdown before storage?

Seriously. Instead of worrying about how well it may or may not make NASA parts, think in terms of a spraydown with light oil, and a session out back of the shop, with a couple different wire wheels on an angle grinder, and compare what a relatively decent import drilll press of similar capacity, and an X/Y Table to put on it is worth, and it starts looking like a buy!

I'll add Vinegar, to the list of de-rust solutions. Mix in as much salt as will dissolve. Make sure the part is fully submerged, or you will watch an etch line form where it has access to O2 from the air.

Downside is, every time I mix up a batch, I crave Fries! :p

Dead is a long time, and if you wanted to wait until you only ever had perfect tools to work with, that's where you gonna be, before you ever make a chip!

If it was in AB I would have gotten this and tried it out - it would be the worst machine condition I ever seen - so it would be interesting.

But I also have large milling machines and a surface grinder to deal with anything "big".

The main problem I see is the machine is worth in good condition like 1500. So is 1000 worth all that work? It feels like more than 40h. I know 40h sounds like a lot - but trust me - time flies!

Meh. When you want capability, and you have time, but not much money, these ugly deals can look pretty good!
Some guys (not me of late!) can actually get things done in their leisure time, so it might be a deal for a newb. For a guy that is looking to flip it, maybe not so much profit in it, though the outcome could be better even, than new.
