Pretty well equipped!

"Mark 1, Colchester STUDENT lathe, with DRO. Comes with a brand new precision 6"- 3 jaw with reversible jaws, 2-10" 4 jaw chucks, 12" back plate--custom made to be a 6 jaw chuck for 14" parts, spare tail stock, a couple of rests, tool post and 8 holders, drill chuck and live centre.
Has the gap bed, and metric and Imperial threading with a lever change. Wired for 240 single phase. Works almost daily and has new spindle bearings and recent belts. All speeds and feeds full functional.
Also , a RARE BURNERD Multi-Size Collet system. 1/8"-1-3/8" range, and the collet chuck and t-wrench. Will include a Hardinge Quick collet chuck and a 6"- 4 jaw chuck, that are not mounted yet. Good little work horse.
This BURNERD collet chuck and the lathe are the same as on "This Old Tony", Watch his videos for more details, but you will never find this again."

wow. Nice lathe, but are things that crazy in BC.....or just another hopefully who thinks he's going to retire off of Gramp's tools?

I agree, it's too expensive. For that money it needs to be pristine.

Couple years ago it wasn’t worth huge bucks. It’s all relative - for $8500 I would expect a nicely appointed lathe - sounds odd that it is in use daily???? Why are you selling? Plus they will trade for a container????

Very strange

Theres' a Chipmaster that just came up for 4500....they irrc were quite a bit more expensive a model than the student,,,,but don't know what it comes with. Agreed, a full satchel of accessories makes a huge difference in value (and my level of interest)

I wonder if the daily use and space are maybe coming to an end at the same time, hence the need for a sea can plus cash. They, too have gone way up in price recently. Unfortunately prices here seem to be crazy high no matter what you want to buy. Don't think we make any more money though....

It’s priced right, especially considering it’s a high value
lathe. Round heads,in particular, are in demand. Last summer an almost identical round head Colchester lathe sold for 10,500 at Lenmark (I still have the listing). My understanding, British lathes have moved up in value including in the UK. It’s crazy, a Myford Super 7 went for the same amount at Bell Machinery.

My second lathe was a Colchester Student. Good stout , accurate machine. I only sold it to make money on it. I still can't understand how a Myford could possibly compare....blows my mind

Hey Darren. The Myford doesn’t compare at all but is more valuable. They have a huge world wide following. Smaller lathes (between 22”-36”) easily sell for more than excellent 40” plus lathes. I came across a mint condition 52” JMT with Multifix tooling for $5000 at a retiring machinist shop last summer.

It's definitely worth some money.
That Burnerd collet system is worth a lot of money. They are super hard to come by. I’ve seen them sell in the UK on occasion for 600-800 sterling pounds. And considering a follow rest sells for 350-450 pounds and a steady for $500 plus pounds, there’s a lot of value there.

The “super hard to come by” and “worth a lot of money” tend to have inversely proportional meanings to me when it comes to something you want to use and not just sit back and admire. I have a Weldon end mill sharpening fixture, parts are “super hard to come by” and I have to make anything I need to keep it operating. “Worth a lot of Money”? Maybe to the guy who has all the parts I am missing …. Ugh

Don’t get me wrong, the collet system may be a valuable asset, and maybe it’s just the fact that the machines are a bag load cheaper here in Ontario (at times). But $8500 is a lot of money for a well used machine.
