I'm confused about the placement of the motor, it looks like it's fixed. But that negates using the other 2 drive hubs doesn't it...
cast base...thing must weigh a bit...

Yes, the motor appears to be fixed in the high speed shiv. Originally this would have been line shaft driven and the speeds were made by moving the belt, but with this conversion they have added a transmission from probably a model T or some such, which gives you the lower speeds.....
 
Oh ffs ...I thought that was the motor, I only just glanced at it...ok...that makes more sense...
Ive seen that 2 other times with a transmission on a lathe...one looked like an old GM 4 spd top loader...
