I have been looking for fly press, this one came up that initially was too large for my space, and too expensive.

The price has now dropped by over 50% and I still dont have the space.

EDIT:

I contacted the seller and found out the reason for the substantial price drop was the discovery of a past crack and repair in the casting. It has been fixed and a thick plate added, but it may not be suitable for any work such a size flypress was intended.

I suspect that a potential buyer may have noticed this, but that may be just the effect of dealing with equipment dealers all deal

For pressing flies?

If a person needed that sort of tonnage capacity for a press wouldn't a hydraulic press always be superior? I know sometimes having a feel with a manual press is good but wondering about the usefulness of such an old style press?

Speed and touch can be very important, as can be the wide throat in comparison to many arbor presses. For blacksmithing hydraulic and/or hammer presses are better but cost far far more.

I want one to bend metal for sculpture armatures and parts to be weld assembled and such, it would be very handy in comparison to other tools.

Pask makes shows how versatile these are, especially in his video making a machinist's chair:

Over the past few months I've seen 2 come and go from market place. One for $400, and one for $700. Both smaller than that in the 3-4ton range, but in arguably better shape (tough to judge without seeing in person). One down in the Niagara region, and the other down Chatham way. They're rare, but they are still out there. I didn't have time, or patience for an all day road trip, or I would have owned one.

It's always a balance of spending my "shop" money on stuff I need right now, vs stuff I see at a great price that I might never see again, or for a long time.

If you see any more please let me know.

Hey now, that's even better, you buy it and store it and I'll just come use it as required!

What municipality are you in if you don't mind my asking?
