Yeah, too many deals in the East - who does buy there new machines when you have some older ones essentially for free? I mean this one is priced for like mini mill price (new).

Not everyone has space for one (or the ability to move them) or the desire to have a project mill. It seems down here the really big machines go cheaper than the bench/hobby sized stuff.

I'd be broke if I lived out east.

What is this "out east" you speak of? Out east here we Maritimers speak of Ontario being central Canada (or Upper Canada if you like) out west means west of the Manitoba border. Ain't perspective interesting! ;)

It's a real desert for machine tool shopping out here but occasionally you get lucky like I did a while back on my mill but those deals are few and far between and go for genuine going rate. Interesting thought about buying a experienced full size machine at the same price as a new mini-mill, I did that comparison in my shopping and it was no contest.

Interesting machine, 3 HP, 3 Phase and 220/240 options, perfect for running with a VFD from 220 1 phase and including X power feed and a DRO even if it needs a scale.

The southern Ontario crowd really has it good with deals like the OP posted. Just to back that up, if I'd asked a few weeks sooner I would have had a mill from an Ontario shop I dealt with for the day job for the cost of shipping. A machine that's not making a shop money isn't worth scrap iron price. The Ontario guys might find some good deals by talking to shops about what they're phasing out soon.......

D:cool:

I had a cab driver in San Antonio tell me he’s “heard of Canada, but not quite sure where that is”.....

Too funny!

I had a somewhat related experience with knowledge of Canada. I was on a bus heading to Lake Tahoe in California with a group of Canadian Auto Journalists. One of the guys asked the driver what the 12 inch red reflectors along the road were for. The driver said that the snow was so deep there in the winter that they needed those so folks would know where the road was. I said "Wow.... I'd never have guessed that. We have those up in Canada too, but ours are eight feet high!" One of the journalists actually printed that in his review!

Most people don’t know what the half green half white markers mean, they’re about 6” square. They’re sometimes green side up sometimes white side up (more so Ontario, I’d have to pause and think if I’ve seen them in other provinces)

One difference I find amusing with the USA is population counts in towns, they’ll have 936 but in Canada we just say 900. So what happens if someone moves? You need a new sign saying 935? (maybe not every state) It just seems silly to be that exact

Spent last week with a couple of American P.Engs., one of them thought the Canadian government assigns us doctors and housing. Any ideas on who do I need to call to get assigned to a townhouse with a larger garage and 3-phase power?

I live in Northern Maine on the US - Canada Border. I live so close to Canada that I usually tell people I can smell their morning coffee breath. Both sides of the border speak French and English and we're all one big family.
To me we are the two best counties in the world.

Amen to that!

I worked both sides of the border my whole career. There are a few notable cultural differences but we are much more the same than we are different.
