Aloris is having a sale till end of the month, I have outgrown my stock holder and it has become a bottleneck when using the lathe so with my "on call" money and some overtime decided to splurge on myself, the ad says us only but I was able to order the below set and my cc was charged 1078.00 cad all in so I am looking forward to no more shimming;).

1078.00 cado_O That's more than what my lathe cost me. Are they really that much better than the $300 variety?

That's for the post plus a handful of holders and a few tools too. But still, ya - it's a lot of moola.

Ive been looking for better deals elsewhere on the toolpost only. So far no luck.

In the past if it says U.S. only I’ve emailed companies and told them I realize shipping / custom charges and they have shipped to me.

They are certainly much better then the cheap China crap but the question is whatever its worth $$$. Even my home made stuff is way better then China stuff. But again == time needed to make.

If I could get used (good condition) Aloris set for say $300- $400 or used tool holders in good condition for say $30 I would go for it over new China stuff.

Notice price difference is 3x (!) ++

For me its something I use everyday on the lathe and I have had issues with the one I have so I decided to invest in a good set because I can and its sometimes nice to treat yourself to something nice, my skills are improving and I know this will make me better and my experience better If I was in a different position I would probably went with a similar setup as you Craig . I have been scouring for anything used and not much out there in the axa variety as I would have loved to go that route.. After a long support call a few weeks ago, when I finally got them going at 2am I said your getting that aloris tool post and I figure I have 40 more years of turning so that's only $25 per year!

I have a set from BB which is the same from KBC and Accusize. You will find that a lot of tool holders from different vendors branded differently and priced differently are one and the same unit.

BTW not saying that this is the case here, just saying buyer beware to purchase smartly to get the best value for your money (whatever ever the budget may be).

I have a piston style tool post. No big complaints except parting and that prolly isn't the tool post..... But just in case it is, I'd like a nice wedge style BXA tool post, but wouldn't want to compromise on quality. $400 US for the Aloris is over my budget. That would be $100 a year using @combustable herbage math.

Anybody know where such a beast can be had?
